AWARENESS
WHEREAS, October 2015 is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women,
after skin cancer; and
WHEREAS, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some
point in their life; and
WHEREAS, over 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be
diagnosed in 2015 and about 40,000 women will die from the
disease; and
WHEREAS, every woman is at risk for breast cancer even if she has no family
history or other risk factors of the disease; and
WHEREAS, the efforts of various organizations have made regular contributions
to spreading breast cancer awareness through outreach
education and screening programs, and, have empowered
women with the life-saving message of early detection and the
importance of having annual mammograms.
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Milton, Georgia
hereby dedicate and proclaim October as NATIONAL BREAST CANCER
AWARENESS MONTH in the City of Milton and call this observance to the attention
of all of our citizens.
