NEW BUSINESS
1. Consideration of a Resolution to Draft a Letter from the Milton City Council to the Fulton
County Board of Assessors to Address the Current Property Assessment Concerns.
RESOLUTION NO. 17-06-431
(Agenda Item No. 17-147)
(Ken Jarrard, City Attorney)
Steve Krokoff, City Manager
Our City Clerk has comments that Councilmember Kunz would like read into the record. In
addition, Councilmember Hewitt would like to sign the letter indicating his approval and absence
from the meeting.
The following letter from Councilmember Kunz was read into the record:
Fellow Councilmembers of the City of Milton,
I am not able to attend tonight's vote due to prior family commitments, but I am in full support of
this letter to the Fulton County Board of Assessors. Last week, Councilman Bill Lusk and I
attended Fulton County Vice Chairman Ellis's town hall meeting. Many of our citizens were there,
and I heard them voice their concerns. Several Milton citizens spoke with Councilman Lusk and
I personally at that meeting. They weren't just concerned about the tax appraisals. They were
concerned with whether they could remain in their homes. They were concerned about how they
would pay their medical bills. They were concerned about their faith in government. This is a
very serious issue.
During that meeting, I was asked by several Milton citizens to speak to the Board of Assessors and
to ask them to strongly consider the request by Vice Chairman Ellis and Chairman Eaves. I
dutifully obliged, but I believe more is needed. Each of us have heard from citizens, and I know
we are all working with other local, county, and state leaders for solutions. I firmly believe this
letter is another step that will help our residents in the City of Milton.
Commissioner Liz Hausmann will be holding her own town hall meeting in Johns Creek tomorrow
night. I will be there again in my capacity as a representative willing to speak on behalf of the
Milton residents who asked me to, and I would hope all of you come to speak to the Board of
Assessors as well. Finally, I also committed to several of our citizens to attend the Board of
Assessors vote this Thursday in Atlanta. I believe this issue is that important that we need to
attend, and to speak.
Respectfully,
Matt Kunz
