I speak for myself alone. I do not represent any otherperson or organization. I am delighted to be here tonight in this magnificent new City Hal building. Honorable mayor and distinguished council persons I congratulate you on you election to the city council. Mayor Lockwood, thank you for the inspiring State of the City address you delivered on January 31. As a citizen of Milton I will pay all legally assessed taxes. I will review all available public documentation to scrutinize for waste, inefficiency, and inappropriate behavior at the city. I will use the power of my vote to elect representatives whose platform I agree with. I will withhold my vote from candidates whose ideas are not consistent with my values and beliefs. I expect the council to operate with high integrity and complete transparency. The city council is not a club, it is not a social organization. You ARE the government. I expect each council member to read and analyze all relevant documentation for each proposal prior to the meeting in order to make an informed decision. Council members, when you vote on a proposal please do not vote as you personally would want the outcome but vote as you feel your constituents would want. After all you do represent them. Please remember that your constituency may not be of the same social -economic status as yourself. Their income, wealth and live situation mabe the same as your own. You represent them. X To that end I recommend that council members learn the desires of the general population and to appreciate the diversity within city. I have owned my property long before the formation of Milton, thus my home was annexed into the city at its formation. Not once in the 12 years that Milton has existed has any council member reached out to me or my neighbors to host an informal gathering to learn our desires and issues. Brief meetings allow you and gain input on critical city matters. Perhaps you should think about that. I expect the city council to be good stewards of our tax dollars and use resources wisely. Shortly after the formation of Milton did hear of an outrageous use of public funds. As I recall the city spent thousands of dollars on a behavioral psychologist to assist the council in resolving conflict and facilitate working together. I certainly hope the city council has matured from that point but I have not yet observed improvement. I can make printed text of presentation available to the city clerk Thank You.
