Local Option
Milton Rescue 42 (R42) dispatched along with a full alarm on a possible chimney fire. R42
arrived on scene and found nothing showing on a two story residential structure. R42
established Freemanwood Lane Command. R42 met with the home owner outside and gathered
information. Command (R42) assigned E43 to investigate the interior of the structure and
conducted a 360 degree walk around of the structure. Milton E41 was assigned to also
inspect the exterior of the structure. Milton Battalion 4 arrived on scene and assumed
Command after a face to face verbal report. R42 was released by Command and returned to
service.
Milton Engine 43 (E43) dispatched along with a full alarm on a possible chimney fire. E43
responded emergency from fire station 43 on a clear night with lite traffic conditions. E43
arrived on scene second behind Milton Rescue 42 (R42) who completed an initial sized up of a
two story residential structure with nothing showing. R42 established Freemanwood command.
E43 was assigned to investigate the interior of the structure. Upon entry E43 found no fire
or smoke on the first floor. E43 was escorted to the up stairs attic access by the home
owner. E43 investigated the attic area with use of a thermal imaging camera. No sign of
smoke, fire, or heat. The max temperature on the chimney flue was less than 100 degrees.
After investigation of the full interior of the residence no hazards identified. E43
gathered information from the home owner. Home owner advised that they have had
approximately four fires in the fire place this season. However they have not had the
chimney cleaned or inspected in approximately ten years. E43 recommended that they do not
use the fire place until they have it cleaned and inspected. A recommendation was also made
for the home owner to have a smoke detector installed in the attic area. Upon completion
E43 gathered all equipment and personnel before returning to service.

R42 released. B4 transferred the scene to E43 before returning to service.
