HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - PRAB - 02-20-2020 MEETING MINUTES CITY OF MILTON PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, February 20, 2020 Council Chambers, Milton City Hall CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Shannon at 6:31 PM. ROLL CALL Roll call was taken by Mr. Shannon. MEMBERS PRESENT Dave Shannon Jason Alberici Phil Cranmer Joey Costanzo Sean-Michael Yonson Esteban Colina OTHERS PRESENT Jim Cregge, Parks and Recreation Director Tom McKlveen, Parks and Recreation Program Manager Thomas Rhodes, Parks and Recreation Specialist Quorum was announced by Mr. Shannon. PRAB – February 20,2020 Page 2 of 5 APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA A motion to approve the meeting agenda was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES A motion to approve the December 19, 2019 meeting minutes was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The vote passed unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT None Election of Officers a. Chairman – A motion to nominate Mr. Stachowski as Chairman was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Yonson. The vote passed unanimously. b. Vice-Chairman – A motion to nominate Mr. Shannon as Vice- Chairman was made by Mr. Costanzo and seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The vote passed unanimously. c. Secretary – A motion to nominate Mr. Costanzo as Secretary was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. d. Committee Appointments o Hopewell Baseball Liaison – Esteban Colina o Eagle Stix and North Georgia Recreation Liaison – Jason Alberici, Joey Costanzo o NAFL Liaison – Sean-Michael Yonson o Halftime Sports Liaison – Phil Cranmer o Milton Mustangs/Milton Tennis Liaison – Dave Shannon o Arts Liaison – Scott Stachowiski A motion to approve the committee appointments was made by Mr. Shannon and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. COMMITTEE REPORTS 1. Hopewell Youth Association 2. Eagle Stix 3. NAFL PRAB – February 20,2020 Page 3 of 5 UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS 1. Introduction of new PRAB member Esteban Colina 2. Discussion on proposed Adult Soccer Program o Program interested in playing at Cox Road Athletic Complex two nights a week; 7:00 – 10:30 PM o Board has invited program representatives to give a presentation at the next PRAB meeting 3. Discussion on City Email Policy o All members required to set up City Email, read cities internal policy guidelines, and complete acknowledgement form 4. Discussion on PRAB Stipend o Members can accept or decline stipend CITY STAFF REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS 1. Program Partner Review a) Milton Tennis Center – Represented by Terre O’Brien o More courts to expand program o Courts are booked through May o Needs permanent restrooms b) Milton Mustangs Swim Team – Represented by Scott Mynatt o Expecting growth in 2020 o Introducing Mini Mustangs – for younger kids interested in swimming but not ready to compete o New furniture, pool house, and deck surface to be completed before Summer PRAB – February 20,2020 Page 4 of 5 c) Starr Petronella Photography, LLC – Represented by Starr Petronella and Amanda Gardner o New city program o Introducing 3-4-week photography camps o Targeting ages 11-17 as well as Adult classes d) Bach to Rock – Represented by Carmen Guinto o Lessons and classes for ages 3 and up o Open to sharing ideas with other providers o Will provide free music to for program and city events e) Hopewell Baseball – Represented by Juan Salas o Practicing and playing games on Field 1 (turf) this season o Suggested covering batting cages o Continued program growth, 850 – 900 participants o Seeking assistance for a volunteer day o Creating levels of play to keep kids interested in playing f) North Georgia Recreation – Represented by Brandon Allen o Weather issues complicating grass practices o Season has been delayed 1 week g) Eagle Stix – Represented by David W. o Continued growth in program o Northwestern Middle School serves as main practice facility o Successful Merry Laxmas tournament o More turf fields for lacrosse h) Challenge Island – Represented by Keri Daniele o Program promotes working with other and how to fail o Teach in a fun way/afterschool program o 3-week Summer camp in Milton PRAB – February 20,2020 Page 5 of 5 i) Halftime Sports – Represented by Kim Coleman o Winter Rec league at 500 kids o Lacking gym space j) NAFL – Represented by Sean-Michael Yonson o Begin regular season Sunday March 1st o Working on improving the low number of participants 2. Wall of Champions o Not limited to athletics at Bell Memorial Park o Programs notify parks and rec department of league champions OTHER BUSINESS None ADJOURNMENT A motion was made to adjourn by Mr. Yonson. The motion was seconded by Mr. Alberici. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote. The meeting was ended by Mr. Shannon at 8:39 PM.
