ROLL CALL Roll call was taken by Mr. Stachowski. MEMBERS PRESENT Scott Stachowski Jason Alberici Joey Costanzo Phil Cranmer Sean-Michael Yonson OTHERS PRESENT Tom McKlveen, Program Manager Thomas Rhodes, Parks and Recreation Specialist Quorum was announced by Mr. Stachowski. APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA Changes: Move Softball Recreation Commission Proposal up after Public Comment. A motion to approve the meeting agenda was made by Mr. Costanzo and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES A motion to approve the July 16, 2020 meeting minutes was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Costanzo. The vote passed unanimously. Randall Cochran – Milton resident o Head Coach of youth softball team that was formerly with Alpharetta’s North Park o His team was forced to break away from North Park due to the MOU being eliminated and his team no longer qualifying for Alpharetta’s resident requirements o Seeking field space in the City of Milton for girls’ softball 2. Tim Johnson – Milton resident o Youth softball coach affiliated with Randall Cochran’s team o Seeking field space in the City of Milton for girls’ softball NEW BUSINESS – Moved up before Committee Reports 1. Recreation Commission Proposal – Mackenzie O. Alizota o Presentation for Alpharetta’s current residency requirement for competitive softball o History, contributions to the City of Alpharetta from ’07 Fire Softball Team o Milton residents causing teams to be out of compliance in Alpharetta o Proposed Solutions ▪ Grandfather teams so they could continue play ▪ Change the residency requirement for teams to form *No motion was made. Board members agreed to take the presenters ideas to city council and are open to discussions with City of Alpharetta. 2. Junior Ranger Program o Inspired from the Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department o Interactive program aimed towards kids to get them engaged in the resources and activities offered in the City of Milton o Participants complete outdoor tasks and receive badges and certificates; eventually earn the title Junior Park Ranger. o The program is designed to foster a sense of love and respect for the outdoors COMMITTEE REPORTS • Hopewell Baseball – Esteban Colina o Recreational baseball evaluations took place August 15th and 16th o Practice begins week of August 24th; opening day scheduled for September 12th PRAB Meeting | August 20, 2020 Page 3 of 4 • Boys and Girls Lacrosse – Joey Costanzo & Jason Alberici o Girls lacrosse players playing in Eagle Stix will now wear a City of Milton branded uniform o Numbers highest they have been in recent past • NAFL Football – Sean-Michael Yonson o Practices began week of August 10th o Flag football games start at Bell Memorial Park on September 12th. • Half Time Sports Basketball – Phil Cranmer o Summer Camps have concluded at Mill Springs Academy o Fall season has not been cancelled at this point • Milton Mustangs Swim Team - Dave Shannon o No 2020 Swim Team – No update • Milton Tennis - Dave Shannon o Court reservation and lesson taking place o Summer programming has concluded • Arts Programming – Scott Stachowski o Hybrid camps have been offered in music o Low registration leads to cancellations in arts programs UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Wall of Fame o Proposal of direct questions ▪ City staff will email PRAB with proposed questions o Character count limits for questions CITY STAFF REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS 1. Tai Chi o Increased interest has led to the addition of classes o Classes being held outdoors at the Broadwell Pavilion and indoors at Bethwell Community with COVID-19 guidelines in place 2. Bell Memorial Park Fields o Tri Scapes performed Summer maintenance on the baseball fields o Fields looking great and ready for Fall activity 3. Adult Soccer o 2020 Contract was approved by City Council o Working with Rush Union to begin registration and planning for a Fall season at Cox Rd Athletic Complex 4. City of Milton COVID 19 Guidelines o Created by the Parks and Recreation Department PRAB Meeting | August 20, 2020 Page 4 of 4 o Programs will implement these guidelines in addition to their individual policies and procedures o Allows the department to stay informed of any testing and confirmed cases OTHER BUSINESS Questions/Concerns ADJOURNMENT A motion was made to adjourn by Mr. Alberici. The motion was seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote. The meeting was ended by Mr. Stachowski at 7:40 PM.
