HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - PRAB - 01-21-2016 MEETING MINUTES CITY OF MILTON PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, January 21, 2015 11:30 AM Executive Conference Room, Milton City Hall CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Shannon at 11:53am. ROLL CALL Roll call was taken by Mr. Shannon. MEMBERS PRESENT Joey Costanzo Phil Cranmer Ron Hill Van Kottis Dave Shannon OTHERS PRESENT Jim Cregge, Parks and Recreation Director Tom McKlveen, Parks and Recreation Program Manager Quorum was announced by Mr. Shannon. APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA A motion was made by Mr. Shannon and seconded by Mr. Kottis to approve PRAB agenda. The vote passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES A motion was made by Mr. Hill to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. It was seconded by Mr. Kottis. The motion passed unanimously. January 21, 2016 PRAB Minutes PUBLIC COMMENT None COMMITTEE REPORTS 1. Hopewell Baseball: Mr. Cregge provided the projected registration for the spring season at 400 participants. HYA will play baseball on the four baseball fields only this spring. 2. Veterans Memorialization: Mr. Hill is working with Bill Lusk and Cambridge Beta Club. Mr. Cregge is setting up a contractor to maintain Freedom Park. Mr. Kottis recommended Rivers Academy for additional help. 3. Football – Mr. Cregge reported that the Milton Steelers had 158 participants in the fall season between tackle, cheer and flag. Only ten are reported to have previously participated in Alpharetta’s program. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Wall of Fame: still working on selection process, zero in on both walls. One wall most likely to be a Wall of Fame for permanent recognition and one wall to be the Champions Wall, honoring the previous season’s championship winners. Working to make changes, including how many can be nominated and inducted each year. Edits will be made and a vote will take place next meeting. 2. Drone Policy: Mr. Cregge- Sandy Springs Parks and Rec are taking the lead on the research. More information coming soon. 3. Facility Rental Policies: A cricket league has rented the fields for the spring and summer on Sunday mornings. The PRAB wishes to review the rental policy at the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS 1. Sponsorship Banners at Bell Memorial Park: The idea of allowing banners at Bell Park was discussed and tabled to next meeting. 2. Hover board policy: There was a discussion about allowing hover boards. They are considered a motorized vehicle, so they will not be allowed on fields. 3. Vapor smoking – There was a discussion regarding allowing vaping in the park. The question is if we should consider changing the park ordinances to include vaping. January 21, 2016 PRAB Minutes CITY STAFF REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS 1. Bell Memorial Park Status Update: The Park is still not finished. There is now a bridge on the trail, and there are discussions between the City and the GC regarding the completion of the trail. There are drainage issues at two of the buildings, allowing water to creep under the walls and into the buildings. One building has mold growing up the wall . 2. Providence Park: The City is working get an engineering company onboard to evaluate the three bridges on the trail. Once they evaluate the bridges, a decision will be made regarding the next steps in making the trail safe to open the park. OTHER 1. PRAB members are reminded that the next meeting in February will have a location change. The meeting will start at the conference room at Bell Memorial Park at 12:00 and will continue at the barn owned by Mr. Shannon at 2395 Birmingham Road. ADJOURNMENT Motion made to adjourn by Mr. Shannon. The motion was seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote. The meeting ended at 1:16pm
