HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - MEC - 11-15-2017 Milton Equestrian Committee Meeting Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Community Place, Milton City Hall Meeting Minutes (completed by Lis Drevet) CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Laura Bentley at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT Laura Bentley Carol Cookerly Larry Covington Lis Drevet Julie Shannon OTHERS PRESENT Courtney Spriggs: Community Outreach Manager Tony Ritch: Citizen/Farm Owner Debbie Jones-Friends of Garland Mountain Mark Jones-Friends of Garland Mountain Rick Mohrig -Council Member PUBLIC COMMENT /NEW BUSINESS 1. Debbie and Mark Jones a. Members of North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC) b. Helped preserve and continue to actively volunteer at Garland Mountain (900 acres) in Cherokee County c. Garland Mountain is a great model for Birmingham Park. i. Passive use (riding and walking) ii. 90% volunteer iii. Sustainable trails iv. Jones’ will help community in consulting and cleaning up Birmingham Park this winter. v. Community Clean-up Day TBD 2. Tony Ritch a. New owner of Pleasant Hill Farm 3. Revised speed limits that take in to account safety of citizens and animals. a. One of the biggest obstacles in regards to safety around farms and maintaining active outdoor lifestyle. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Community Trail Ride-waiting for formal proposal from Tamara 2. Milton Greenspace Advisory Committee update 1. No additional information 3. Fireworks Update a. Laura w ill get with Shannon regarding New Year’s fireworks, so that community can be informed about what is and is not allowed. 4. Trails Discussion Update a. Laura will bring to the Greenspace Committee what the MEC would advise regarding trails for equestrians in Milton i. Passive use (walkers, riders, no bikes, no motorized vehicles) ii. Keeping Birmingham Park passive and natural as much as possible, giving Milton residents a place to go and experience nature. iii. Designating all dirt roads as trails and possible passage connecting Summit, Philips Circle, Wood and Brittle Rd. OTHER ADJOURNMENT The meeting ended at 8:30 p.m.
