HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - MEC - 07-18-2018 Milton Equestrian Committee Meeting Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Community Place, Milton City Hall Meeting Minutes CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Julie Shannon at 7:01pm. MEMBERS Larry Covington- present Lis Drevet-present Julie Shannon-present Susan Day-present Carol Cookerly-present Tony Rich- present OTHERS PRESENT Courtney Spriggs, Community Outreach Manager Megan and Stewart Thiel, Citizens and Milton Farm Owners PUBLIC COMMENT 1. Does Milton have codes for a commercial equine facility? a. Citizen will email Courtney with question to get answer. NEW BUSINESS 1. Meeting minutes* a. Elisabeth will send out minutes via email for editing to all committee members within a week of the meeting b. Members will approve minutes at following meeting 2. Discussion of 501c3 (led by Elisabeth Drevet) a. Members discussed pros and cons of helping community establish a non-profit to aid the City in establishing and maintaining trails for equestrians and passive use. b. Handout was given for reference 3. Presentation to council* a. Establish a work-study throughout this next month to put together a presentation for Council regarding the role of the MEC i. Possible funding for events ii. Progression of City and how it relates to horses iii. Elisabeth and Carol will get it started and report back to MEC 4. Milton Disability Awareness Committee: (Led by Susan Day) a. Trying to bridge equestrian and disability awareness committee b. Equine therapy has been proven to be beneficial for many disabilities i. Possibly extend invitation out to the Milton Disability Awareness Committee to attend meeting and to bring awareness of established therapy facilities in Milton 5. Open meeting/Records: (Led by Courtney Spriggs) a. Everything that is conducted in the name of Milton is subject to open records 6. Tree Ordinance Stakeholder Meeting: (Led by Tony Rich) a. Canopy coverage-trying to get to 60% b. How do we currently value pasture land? UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Visit to Garland Mountain (Led by Larry Covington) c. Members are welcome to make individual commitment to go out and visit Garland Mountain d. MEC to extend invitation to Friends of Garland Mountain to next meeting to discuss the needs at Birmingham Park ADJOURNMENT The meeting ended at 8:00 p.m. *Items added to agenda at meeting
