Tuesday, February 6 – 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Attendees: Bill Purdie, Bob Stewart, Megan Jamison, Sarah LaDart, Barbara Peck, Wayne Boston,
Courtney Spriggs, Shannon Ferguson, Jeremy Logan
The meeting was called to order, roll call was taken and guests were introduced to the Committee.
The following topics were discussed:
Literary Festival 2018
Wayne Boston gave an overview of the successful growth of the Milton Literary Festival from its
inception in 2015 through last year. In 2016, thirty to forty authors participated. In 2017, the
number of participating authors expanded to 62.
As the Festival grew in popularity, the City’s responsibilities also grew. A decision was made to
transfer the responsibilities for the Literary Festival from the Community Outreach Office to another
entity. The City has offered to provide space for the event but will not provide funding. Expenses for
the event were estimated to be approximately $5,000 to $7,000.
Wayne introduced Jeremy Logan to the Committee. Jeremy played an important leadership role in in
past festivals and is extremely interested in continuing this important event in Milton. He explained
his vision to lead, and expand, the 2018 festival which is tentatively planned for November 2.
Depending upon availability, Wayne would act as an advisor. Barbara Peck will be the MAC primary
contact. Jeremy will organize an Executive Committee for the November event.
Milton School Partnerships
Developing a strong partnership with the art teachers within the Milton school system and the Milton
Cultural Arts Committee (MCAC) will enhance the communications between MCAC and the
parent/student population. Lauri Goodling is leading this initiative.
Sarah LaDart announced that April 22 – 28 is GA Cities Week. She proposed that this might be a good
time to sponsor an art contest whose theme would be Milton’s City Hall. The entries would be judged
by age categories, and the contest would be restricted to Milton school students.
501c3 Filing
Bill Purdie has identified a pro bono attorney, Ed Tate, who will work with MAC on our 501c3. The
search for a pro bono CPA is ongoing.
