Bullpen Conference Room
The following members were present for the May 8th meeting: Lauri Goodling, Megan Jamison, Sarah LaDart, Bill Purdie, Kevin Swan, and guest Marlysa Raye-Jacobus. Sarah LaDart took roll
call; Bill Purdie called the meeting to order.
Guest – Marlysa Raye-Jacobus
Marlysa joined the meeting to discuss the opportunity to insert art into the many roundabouts in the City. She is a master gardener and very involved in the community. She brought
some concepts from a visit to France that included a horse made from horseshoes. We discussed with her the process of art procurement for the City as well as the possibility of State
regulations around what can be placed in a roundabout.
Chic Evolution in Art Gallery Opening
After Ivan attended our meeting last month, he extended an invitation to our committee to attend the grand opening. It was an excellent event and it is a wonderful addition to our downtown.
Logo Selection
Megan made an executive decision which was unanimously backed to pick Round 2, Version 1. There are a few minor tweaks and she will work with Sarah to finalize the logo promptly.
Senior Center Arts Programs
Bill toured the Milton Senior Center with Councilwoman Laura Bentley and identified a need for art to come to the seniors. There is a touring theatre company out of Alpharetta that
does something similar to assist with persons that have trouble getting to venues. We discusses streaming services that could provide access for seniors with limitations. Also working
with our local schools to provide artwork for the senior center and having their teachers, or other skilled members of the community, teach art classes.
Markers at Historical Sites
Discussion of working on an RFP for a designer and producer of the medallions that will complement the historical sites that the Historical Committee selected. There is no rush to do
in tandem with pouring sidewalks because it can easily be cored and inserted into existing sidewalk. We would like to have a price estimate to submit in the 2019 budget.
MAC Incorporation
Bill is working with the Secretary of State and hopes to have this completely shortly. Once the status is issued by the State, he will open a bank account to deposit monies collected
from Milton’s Got Talent. Also will need to finalize bylaws, terms, election process, and how to handle sub-committees.
MAC Web Site
Megan said it’s moving along. Megan will look into streaming capabilities and archiving as well as a possible YouTube channel for “Milton Arts”. Facebook streaming?
School/Church/Civic Partnerships
Emily has been asked to head up church partnerships. Similar to how Lauri is meeting with schools with the intention of creating the open line of communication on a) our future events
and b) any ideas they may have for us. “How can we interact together?”
Beach Bash at Bell & MGT – June 16th
Sarah will look into where we can put our logo, perhaps a banner, and a table. We are going to look into having t-shirts made to sell to fundraise. And maybe Frisbees.
Miscellaneous
Megan suggested inviting Gil Harvard to our next meeting. Sarah will reach out to Gil.
Committee members were reminded and encouraged to attend the Collaboration event the City is hosting this Friday evening and Saturday.
Bill would like a list of Civic Organizations in Milton for speaking engagements. Sarah will facilitate the introduction to Stacey Inglis, the President of the Milton Rotary.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11:30 AM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sarah LaDart, Staff Liaison
