HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - CAC - 11/14/2017MILTON CULTURAL ARTS COMMITTEE MINUTES Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 – 11:30 AM Bullpen Conference Room Milton High School The group discussed at length the possibility of area high school stage sharing with the City to present short, off-season productions with the community. Points of contacts need to be identified for Milton and Cambridge High. Milton High School has an award-winning theatre company (The Milton Theatre Company). It is highly organized with two professional directors, a Board of Directors, a patrons program (Friends of Milton Theatre) and a strong volunteer-based support group. Cambridge High School also has a theatre program with excellent facilities and an Executive Actors Support Board. Alpharetta Community Center The Communications Department gave approval for us to establish a partnership with the Alpharetta Community Center. The wall mural was also approved. The Byrd House was recommended as another possible community event location. The group’s goal, at this point in time, for CAC sponsored events is Summer 2018. Fundraising and .org Website Fundraising to support the Milton Cultural Arts Program was discussed. Possibilities included, but were not limited to: Create a 501c3 non-profit in GA with articles of incorporation, bylaws, etc. There are filing fees associated with this process. Additionally, we would have to pay the City Attorney if we elected to have the attorney oversee and implement the process or we could try to find an attorney with in Milton who would be willing to assist the group on a pro bono basis. Final permission from the city needs to be obtained before the CAC can move ahead with a 501c3. Set up a fund within the City – tax free. Sync with Milton on the budget. To financially supplement the activities of the CAC, a patron-based system was discussed. Discussion included the number/type of levels. Based on those levels, what would the benefits be (tax deduction, recognition, preferred events, etc.)? It was agreed that initially the group create a Facebook page for the .org website. Milton Music Festival – Rock for Rescue - April 28 Do we want to participate? If we do, how can we put something visual into the event (display wall, art for sale)? Crabapple Sidewalk Horseshoes & Wall Mural The horseshoe project and wall mural have been approved. Research the name – Milton Art Rocks – to see if it is available. Respectfully Submitted, Barbara Peck
