HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - PRAB - 09-17-2020PRAB Meeting | September 17, 2020 Page 1 of 4 MEETING MINUTES CITY OF MILTON PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, September 17, 2020 Council Chambers, Milton City Hall ABSENSE OF CHAIR AND VICE-CHAIR A motion to designate Phil Cranmer as acting chairman for September 17, 2020 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Colina. The vote passed unanimously. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Cranmer at 6:31 PM. ROLL CALL Roll call was taken by Mr. Cranmer. MEMBERS PRESENT Jason Alberici Joey Costanzo Phil Cranmer Sean-Michael Yonson Esteban Colina OTHERS PRESENT Tom McKlveen, Program Manager Thomas Rhodes, Parks and Recreation Specialist Haley Poinsette, Uniquely Fitt Quorum was announced by Mr. Cranmer. APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA Changes: Move Fitness Provider Presentation up after Public Comment. A motion to approve the meeting agenda was made by Mr. Costanzo and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. PRAB Meeting | September 17, 2020 Page 2 of 4 APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES A motion to approve the August 20, 2020 meeting minutes was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Colina. The vote passed unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT 1. Jim Cregge – Alpharetta resident o Former City of Milton Parks and Recreation Director o Attended meeting to wish the board members and staff farewell as he transitions into retirement NEW BUSINESS – Moved up before Committee Reports 1. Uniquely Fitt Presentation – Haley Poinsette o Fitness Provider seeking partnership with the city in 2021 o Uniquely Fitt can offer a variety of classes, starting with: ▪ UFitt Dance Cardio ▪ UFitt Recess ▪ UFitt Group o Concept - Introduce each program January – March ▪ 4-week option or per class option. o Re-Evaluation in March ▪ Survey community and past class users on which program, of the top three, they want to see consistently ▪ Run most popular classes consistently ▪ Run one new program every session o A motion to approve further discussion with staff was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Costanzo. The vote passed unanimously. 2. Bell Memorial Park Signage o The lettering at the entrance to Bell Memorial Park has been continuously damaged; missing letters o Options for new signage and the removal of the letters entirely discussed o A recommendation was made that the letters be removed from the rock wall and no action be taken at this time; the park already has identifying signs at the entrance and surrounding areas. COMMITTEE REPORTS • Hopewell Baseball – Esteban Colina o Fall season has started o All-Star/Travel has started • Boys and Girls Lacrosse – Joey Costanzo & Jason Alberici o Season has started o The number are up for Eagle Stix o Grass fields in the city are in great shape PRAB Meeting | September 17, 2020 Page 3 of 4 • NAFL Football – Sean-Michael Yonson o Flag football season has started at Bell Memorial Park o Tackle football season has started at North Park o Reports from both parks are positive • Half Time Sports Basketball – Phil Cranmer o Fall season is taking place in available gyms o Program continuing to look for additional gym space within city limits and surround counties • Milton Mustangs Swim Team - Dave Shannon o No 2020 Swim Team – No update • Milton Tennis - Dave Shannon o No report • Arts Programming – Scott Stachowski o Bach to Rock continuing to try and get participants; no classes have been formed to date o Low registration leads to cancellations in arts programs UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Wall of Fame o Ceremony to take place on Saturday, November 7, 2020; aligns with Hopewell Youth Association’s Championship Saturday. o 2020 inductees have been selected and contacted o Online nomination form will be updated for the 2021 class 2. Junior Park Ranger Program o Defer to October meeting CITY STAFF REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS 1. City Email o Reminder for all board members to continue to use city email for city related business 2. Adult Soccer Program o Started inaugural season the week of September 14th o Minor issues with delivery of damaged soccer goal parts and painting machine malfunctions o Season was able to start as planned with several modifications 3. Free Little Library o Constructed and installed by local Girl Scouts o Promotes neighborhood book exchange o Beautiful addition to the Broadwell Pavilion OTHER BUSINESS None PRAB Meeting | September 17, 2020 Page 4 of 4 ADJOURNMENT A motion was made to adjourn by Mr. Alberici. The motion was seconded by Mr. Yonson. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote. The meeting was ended by Mr. Stachowski at 7:24 PM.
