RESOLUTION NO. 20-05-535
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL TO APPROVE ·THE SUBMISSION
OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FOR THE
STAFFING FOR ADEQUATE FIRE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Department of Homeland Security makes available funding
under the Staffing for Adequate Staffing and Emergency Response (SAFER)
grant program; and
WHEREAS, such funds are awarded directly to fire departments to support
expanding their service level to protect the community and enhance firefighter
safety by funding the salaries of new firefighters; and
WHEREAS, the primary goal of the SAFER grant program is to enhance the
local fire departments' abilities to comply with staffing, response , and
operational standards established by the National Fire Protection Association
(NFPA); and
WHEREAS, the funding , if awarded, shall be used to partially fund salaries
for firefighters to staff an engine at Station 44 in support of the standards set by
NFPA and the Insurance Services Office (ISO), and to improve response times to
medical and fire calls throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, evidence authorizing the acceptance of said application may
be provided to assist in the application process.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT SO RESOLVED, this 4th day of May 2020 by the Mayor
and Council of the City of Milton that the submission of the Department of
Homeland Security's SAFER grant application is hereby approved; and if
awarded the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute the award package with
directives under the Department of Homeland Security.
