Kathy suggested we have an annual sticker to designate Evergreen School status yearly. Ground Rules for Meeting - Jack and Cindy suggested that we state ground rules such as no interrupting, a certain amount of time for comments or questions at end of each topic (2 minutes or less), etc. in an attempt to keep meetings to 11/2 hours. We will begin this at December meeting. Bring One for the Chipper - Jack has contacted Todd Harkelroad/Casey Tree to do chipping on Sunday, Jan. 8 at Scottsdale Farms and Milton HS. Home Depot will also be a site, but Davey Tree chips those trees. Cliff Jones/MHS is confirming. Decided on 9AM-3PM to coincide with Home Depot Chipper hours. Discussion about trying to get a good count for trees chipped on Jan. 7'. Possibility of goody bags or saplings to give away. (Mark Law checking with Rotary to see if saplings are being donated - Cindy following up). Include green and white candy canes. Tass offered Crabapple Community Assoc. potentially as volunteers for event and to stuff bags - Cindy will follow up. We need to find places to dump the mulch - Cindy checking with Mark Law - Bethwell is a site, and also with MHS - Tracy Eller. This is rough Christmas tree mulch ... good for trails and erosion control. Rivers Alive Recap - 41001bs. estimated trash collected, 50 or more volunteers, front-page article in Milton Herald. Additional efforts by Hopewell MS Eco Explorers (clean up around school) and BFES Girl Scout troop (storm drain markers) also took place. Milton Roundup Recap - Francia reported that Richard Kinzel's Rain barrels were a big hit, sold about 7. Only one person signed up for MGG info. Good synergy with Clean Air campaign people. Mark Law displayed the tree/climate change poster in CD booth. Crowd seemed to be less than first year. Off site parking was negative. Smaller more frequent buses would be better. Clean Air smog car was set up at entrance to parking, as a drive by display. Need to have that in the main event area. Recycling was handled poorly! Charlie Slade assured us the recycling containers would be there. Charlie brought "recycling labels" for the trash boxes, which went out around 2 PM - no telling where recycling ended up. We decided that we (MGG) should plan on handling this with the Clearstream containers that we can borrow from City of Alpharetta. That Milton Grows Green Committee Meeting Minutes, November 8, 2011 [APPROVED] ALL MILTON GROWS GREEN DOCUMENTS ARE PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER wrrH AT LEAST 35% POST - CONSUMER CONTENT. way, we coordinate and know it is done the right way. Important to have to have a recycling container next to trash container or it will be used as a trash container. Christmas in Crabapple -Saturday, Dec. 17. 2-5 PM. Tass described location as both behind Olde Blind Dog and on Sally's property on Broadwell. We will help with getting recycling bins (Cindy). Suggested cardboard boxes for trash, and Alpharetta Clearstream bins for recycling, they can be purchased for $7/each from WM and Advanced Disposal. 20 businesses are participating. Children will get passports to visit businesses. Cindy will reserve the Chipper costume for the event (done) and Chipper will hand out Bring one for the Chipper info. Jack will check with Vic Knight about getting trash boxes. America Recycles Day, November 15 - Cindy is working on a recycling resource webpage for residents to refer to for recycling options. Francia suggested starting with a website list she had done. In addition, containers will be placed at 3 locations at city hall to recycle shoes with Shoes for a Cure program. Solid Waste - Jack suggested that we be clear that our residents should expect recycling to be provided by their hauler. Cindy mentioned that MGG now has responsibility for the solid waste management plan under our wings, including the budget accrued from the 5% franchise fee. Budget should give us funding for events like hazardous waste. Cindy is working on a survey to send in January to residents. Earth Day - Jack asked if we are going to get help with the planning of the event from Parks and Rec or Carter. Jon suggested we get help with project management skills. Cindy has contacted PMI and volunteers may be provided to help with project management tasks. Jack asked if the new event planner would be in charge of Earth Day; Cindy said it probably would be our event, with City support. Jack would like to ask John Rebar for help with parking. Jack proposed by next meeting that we assign roles for Earth Day to diversify responsibilities. Jon suggested more green building focus and more environmentally focused booths and volunteered to get going on that. Meeting adjourned at 1:50 PM. ATTEST: Jon B.
