MILTON GROWS GREEN COMMITTEE
JANUARY 9, 2013 MINUTES [ApPROVED]

Place: City Hall, Executive Conference Room, 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Milton, GA 30004
Agenda: It was posted on the City's web site.
Attendees: Jack Lindon, Cindy Eade, Francia Lindon, Mark Law, Jason Wright, Lily Pavao,
Kathy Johnson, Lynna Lee, and Ken Woods (visitor from MDAC).
I. Approval of Minutes -Francia -no minutes were available for approval.
11. Staff Reports:
• Jason Wright -introduced new City logo. Volunteer Appreciation luncheon at
Friendship Community Park in March, date T.B.A., catered by CUE. Cindy projects
many more volunteers then 50 . Jason suggested rsvp for planning. He is working on
annual report and wants to list members in MGG group and highlight annual
accomplislunents.
• Mark Law -Arbor Day. Ga. Arbor Day third Friday, Feb. 15 th
• Mark talked about
coordinating a planting at Friendship Park with Crabapple Crossing E.5. Or possibly
combine Earth Day with Arbor Day. Kathy Johnson suggested we coordinate during
Earth Day with a presentation on stage. Francia suggested burying a time capsule with
the tree. Mark would like to award Tree City USA flag to school involved -City to
present to Elementary School involved. Lily Pavao was interested in doing tree planting
at Cogburn Woods E.5. Mark willing to purchase a tree and help with a tree program,
funds from tree recompense program. Kathy Johnson knew of someone from Summit
Hill E.5. who wanted to also do a tree planting.
• Michele McIntosh-Ross -Green Communities Awards Ceremony. Showed the plaque
for the bronze award. Showed list of measures we achieved in order to get the bronze
award. Pointed out that Milton is the only community that had received points for the
Community Forest Master plan, and also the only new North Fulton City to earn Green
Community status. Cindy mentioned that this award needs to be sustainable; we have to
continue to work on measures, and hopefully go for the Silver award in May 2014.
January 29th will be a community workshop with the city attorney and other experts on
TDR's. Michele briefly explained the TOR process. Cindy elaborated that it is a
mechanism to preserve green space (preservation has to be part of the deed and is
strictly a free market device) and the more we know and can communicate it to the
community, the more effective the program will be. Master planning is being done for
Hwy. 9 north of Bethany Bend to Forsyth line. Public safety building is on hold.
III. New Business:
• Environmental Education -Kathy had a call from someone at Summit Hill involved
with grounds who wants to have a tree planting and join Evergreen school program.
Has had contact with the Principle and finally got the name of someone who would be
environmentally involved. She also wants to apply for a grant and Evergreen Schools
Program. Cindy said Summit Hill is too late for this year's grants, but they can

participate in the remaining Evergreen School meetings. They can join next year and
there is some money to plant a tree for Arbor Day. We will try to budget for the grants
for next year.
Kathy has coordinated the Earth Balloon at Birmingham Falls E.5 ., April 18 & 19 U1
, using
the grant funds. The entire school will rotate through the giant inflatable Earth Balloon.
Lessons go with it. It's owned by Keep Roswell Beautiful and is rented out at $300/ day
but goes to Roswell schools first.
• Adopt-A-Road -Julie Pinckney -no report
• National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat Certification Project -
Francia. Francia will check with Jason for a list of Home Owners Associations contacts
to send information about HaAs certifying common areas and homeowners certifying
their properties.
IV. Old Business:
• Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event -Jack. The City is definitely doing one,
date T.B.A. Estimated budget is $12,000 to cover approximately 200 cars.
