MILTON GROWS GREEN COMMITTEE
JULY 10, 2013 MINUTES [APPROVED]
Date: July 10, 2013, 6:30 to 8:00 PM
Place: Birmingham Fire Station (#43) 750 Hickory Flat Road, Milton, GA 30004
Attendees: Jack Lindon, Francia Lindon, Cindy Eade, Teresa Stickels, Lynna Lee, Kathy
Johnson, Gail Gill, Barbara Peck and Bika Bloor
I. Agenda: It was posted on the City's web site
IL Minutes: Ian., Feb., March and May 2013 were approved
III. Old Business:
Household Paint and Chemical Collection: At Bell Memorial Park, looking at Aug.
but had to go through bid process and a contract. Contract approved on Council
Consent agenda for July 16. EQ was selected as the vendor. They have worked with
Roswell and Alpharetta and come highly recommended. Their processing facility is
on west side of Atlanta. There will be online registration. We have a budget of
$11,000, which we hope to serve 150 people. Limit to 10 gals of latex paint, 10 gals
oil based paint per vehicle. We are going to generate a confirmation sheet. Drugs
will not be included. YMSL is going to volunteer at this event providing 8 people
per shift.
National Wildlife Federation Community Habitat Project: Planning to get a news
article and do an e-blast on contest to certify yards (with award being a sign donated
by Sarah Ellison and Girl Scouts.) Sarah is supposed to do a virtual garden tour on
line. We need 40 more homes and 15 businesses, churches or HOA common areas.
Goal for completion, Sept.1. Library is a potential site for certification but will need
to do after construction. Library will be a LEED certified building. Need to get
Birmingham Park and Hopewell House certified. Ask Green Team at Crabapple
Crossing ES to take care of bird bath at Friendship Park. Lynn Lee had copies of the
letter she wrote to neighbors encouraging certification.
• Adopt A -Road: Julie was not present but Cindy showed the new map with Roads
to be adopted, and Bika may adopt a section
• Keep America Beautiful Affiliation: The KAB Application and fees have been sent
in to National Headquarters seeking affiliation as Keep Milton Beautiful.
IV. New Business:
• Rivers Alive: The Baileys still want to host. Will determine date by the end of July
to order the t-shirts. Jack has divided City into 4 quadrants with specific attention to

streams where they cross the roads. Lynna will check out stream and ponds at
Cambridge HS
• Crabapple Antiques and Milton Roundup: This year it is a combined event, first
Saturday in October. We have been asked to organize a kids crafts tent with Home
Depot birdfeeders to make.
• Bulky Trash: Dates are September 14th, December 7th, March 22"', June r at
Roswell Public Works. Good furniture will be sent to the Atlanta Furniture Bank.
YMSL volunteering again. Kathy Graham is the contact at City of Roswell.
Bell Memorial Park: City has purchased 15 additional acres and have had
community meetings on how to utilize those. We will send Jim Cregge a statement
from MGG that we would like to preserve the rural view shed on Hopewell Road
and keep the mature trees to the extent we can and more green space.
V. Announcements:
Milton Farmers Market: Will be at Silos parking lot this year on Wednesdays from 8
AM to noon.
• _Master Gardeners and Native Plant Society: Want to coordinate rescuing the
plants at Bell and coordinating a plant sale in early September.
