SEPTEMBER 11, 2013 MINUTES [ApPROVED]
Date: September 11, 2013, 6:30 to 7:30 PM
Place: Wills Park Activity Center (after Evergreen Resource Fair)
Attendees: Cindy Eade, Francia Lindon, Lynna Lee, Bruce Langston, Teresa Stickels, Ken
Hughes, Kathy Johnson, Rebecca Brown, Donna Liberatore.
I. Agenda: It was posted on the City's web site.
II. Approval of Minutes: No minutes were approved. (Kathy Johnson chaired the meeting as Jack
Lindon was out of town.)
III. New Business (taken out of the order on the Agenda):
• Guest Presentation -Sharon Smith and Pam Kiel from FC Department of Watershed
Management were present to discuss the FC Adopt-A-Stream program. Sharon is willing
to train a group of up to 25 people on Adopt a Stream. Program includes macro
invertebrates and bacterial testing (total about 4 hours). Also, Sharon volunteered to let
Milton residents borrow Fulton County water testing equipment and replenish supplies
as needed. We want to keep the A-A-S program that Tom Sewell from Hopewell MS has
developed sustainable. He estimates he has trained 400 students and parents in the last 6
years. (We have since landed on Oct. 23,6:30 to 9:00 pm at Executive Conference Room
for training and Ken Hughes has agreed to lead the program.)
• Crabapple Fest, Oct. 5. 10 am - 6 pm. MGG's Booth will have plant rescue give-away and
information on Adopt-A-Stream. Will need MGG's help staffing. Jack and Marc
Arrington will coordinate recycling with Angela.
• Earth Day schedule was discussed. Could be week before or after official Earth Day,
Tuesday April 22 od • Need to research compositing events. Easter is April 20. Fulton
County Schools' spring break is April 7-11. Need to determine Volunteer chairs or co
chairs.
III. Old Business:
Rivers Alive: Bruce, Lynna, Gail, Barbara, Ken and Jack have offered to identify clean up areas in
each quadrant of the city. Need to reach out to other volunteer groups other than the Young
Men's Service League. Teresa will ask Milton Beta club.
• Bulky Trash -September 14, YMSL is volunteering. MGG can stop by.
• Boy Scouts of America, Troop 3000 is doing a Document Shredding/Electronics
collection, the first document shredding event for city, $5/box.
