III. Old Business:
• Household Hazardous Chemical and Paint Collection: Is scheduled for Feb. 22, 9 AM
-1 PM at Bell Memorial Park. EcoFlo has been fantastic to work with. Kathy will work
10-12 with Marc A., Jennifer G. from 8-10 AM. Margaret Lamb has been very helpful
with putting registrations on spreadsheet. Suggested we accept confirmations via
phone (save paper).
• Ado t-A-Stream: Jennifer and Jack are organizing a training session for March 8, 1 PM
at Hickory Flat Fires Station or Margaret Lamb's house (in White Columns).

A-A-S in their 5th grade curriculum science lab. Cindy to provide map of local
streams for training session.
• Earth Day Planning: Event is April 19t' at Friendship Community Park. Need to focus
on getting more environmental vendors and green businesses. Will have an NWF
display at Earth Day as part of MGG booth.
• Ado t-A-Road: No report.
• Preserve Rural Milton (PRM): A resident, Laura Rencher, who also wants to be an
MGG member, has invited everyone to a meeting on Sunday, February 16th at 2:00
pm at restaurant next to I Love NY Pizza to address the loss of open space. Laura's
invited speaker Carol Hassell of GA Piedmont Land Trust/ Suwanee City Council
person, a knowledgeable resource on preservation. Cindy has been trying to get as
much information as possible but is not supposed to be working with Laura until the
City Council says they want staff to move forward. The big news is City Council has
called a 30-day moratorium on accepting any new rezoning reques s. Jack talked
about his experience instituting a conservation ordinance in North dover, MA.
Laura Rencher and Abby Laboda are working on educating the co munity including
developers. PRM wants to have a booth at Earth Day. Next Wednesday is a meeting
of the planning commission to look at the rural view sheds and setbacks looking for
public input. We all agreed there is a need to preserve the rural view sheds and it is a
big part of the comprehensive plan.
• Keep Georgia Beautiful/Keep Milton Beautiful: Jack reported one. discussion with
Chris Logerbloom. Chris has gotten more information on forming an affiliate. There is

a $3,000 fee for training sessions for members and an annual fee to join. On the plus
side it would make us more eligible for grants. Has branding recognition. Criticism is
that it is a "greenwash" for corporations on its Board of Directors who contribute at
lot to pollution. Projects promoted are mostly cleanup and joining would require a
serious commitment from at least 5 members. KGB involves serious record keeping
on amount of trash collected. i
III. New Business:
• Presentation by MetroTech Net: (Michael and Nick) MetroTech is developing
technologies that turn video feeds from traffic and security cameras into data that can
be used to better synchronize traffic lights. Creates real-time traffic information from
any video stream and publishes it via the web to applications, mobile phones and
connected vehicles. Archives can also use the technology to design solutions to
mitigate backups. Monitors incidents for quick responses. Local governments are
MetroTech's initial market but they also plan to sell data to private companies such as
UPS and individual commuters. Are currently monitoring Peachtree & Piedmont and
up to 1-20 in Buckhead. Governments need to install infrastructure - mast arms at
major intersections equipped with fiber optics and cameras. Possible busy
intersections in Milton would include Cogburn at Bethany Bend, Bethany Bend at Rt.
9. They are doing a pilot project with Alpharetta for Windward Pkwy. from Rt. 400
west. They have talked to the Clean Air Campaign - traffic relief would help clean air.
Have also talked to Matt Kunz.
• Arbor Day: Mark Law spoke about doing some kind of joint Arbor Day program at
_ Earth Day Festival. Has access to tree seedlings from NWF that we could give out to
promote Arbor Day and teach proper tree planting. Would like to consider a photo
contest for great Milton trees. Select entries in Feb. 2015 and frame them to display at
new library or City Hall. Banner promoting "Champion Trees of Milton" or
"Outstanding Trees of Milton". Post on Facebook page to promote. Could have maps
locating these outstanding trees.
• Boy Scout Troop 3000 Recycling Event March 15, 9 AM to 1 PM. We need to help
with promoting. Recycle electronics, metal, and document shredding.
• MGG Meeting Schedule: Decided that the second Thursday of each month would
work better for the group overall, at 6:30 PM in Executive Confere e Room (get more
participation with evening meetings). 7
• Conservation Subdivision Visit: Walt Rekuc, who is on the Board of Zoning
Appeals and is a developer, has offered to show us his conservatio subdivision in
Suwanee. Interested folks should RSVP to Cindy.
• The Georgia Water Coalition: Kathy Johnson talked about her day in the GA
legislature and a bill the GA Water Coalition (62 different environmental
organizations in GA) opposed, Senate Bill 213 - allows the E.P.D. Director to prohibit
certain permitees from withdrawing water from the Flint River downstream of an
augmentation project. Farmers also opposed.
Meeting adjourned at 8.30 pm
