III. Updates and Old Business:
Earth Day Festival: A good deal of disappointment was express that it was cancelled a.t the last
minute. MGG wasn't consulted about the cancellation prior to it being announced~ Jack reported
that Creative Solar, Rhino Shield and BrightWay Insurance were given half of their sponsorship
money back because of the cancellation. A picture taken at 9 AM onEarth Day showed a lot of
mud and puddles. We will consider a rain date next year. Discussion took place on how to
minimize the risk of cancellation in the future and also on the wording in the sponsor/vendor
applications about weather conditions that would prompt cancellation. Since it did not pose the
same high risk, Birmingham Park was discussed as a site option with Chris Logerbloom but
because it is not a developed park, not ADA accessible, plus there is still an ownership issue with
Fulton County, Chris said we wouldn't be able to use it for the foreseeable future.
Ado t-A-Stream (GA Volunteer Water uali Monitorin Pro am): Jennifer reported that
Cindy has ordered supplies for the test kits. The city is providing the funding. Fulton County,
Watershed Protection Branch of the EPD is providing training. Julie Pinckney and Juanita were
the first to use the Fulton County kit loaned to MGG. At Birmingham Falls E.5. 5th grade teachers
are going through training in May to monitor the stream behind the school with 5th grade classes
as this provides an opportunity to take science lessons outdoors. Data is collected throughout the
state and is reported to www.georgtaadoptatream.com .
Evergreen Schools Program: Milton had 4 schools represented at the end-of-the-year program at
Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. Cambridge HS and Birmingham Falls ES were awarded $500 each
in environmental grants from City. Cambridge will expand their recycling program and add an
organic garden and Birmingham Falls will be using it for Adopt-A-Stream kit supplies.
Adopt-A-Road: Cindy reported that it costs $90/ set for new signs so she has requested $2700 in
next year's budget to replace old signs . Better Together has just had their new signs installed on
Thompson Road.
MGG Structure Reorganization: This subcommittee has met for a preliminary discussion. Jack
reported that the changes being considered are reducing the governing board from 13 members
to 7 members. The final composition would have to be approved by city council. New MGG
structure may be Past Chairman (Chairman Emeritus) for a I-year term, Current or acting
Chairman, I-year term, and Vice Chairman (Chairman Elect), I-year term and 4 Directors for each

in Sandy Springs have preserved land and have a mechanism for funding . People need to be
educated about green spaces. In golf communities, only about 2% of people golf, but they
