MILTON GROWS GREEN COMMITTEE
AUG. 7, 2014 MINUTES [ApPROVED]
Date: Aug. 7, 2014, 6:30 PM -8:15 PM
Place: Executive Conference Room, City Hall, 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Milton, GA 30004
Attendees: Jack Lindon, Francia Lindon, Cindy Eade, Julie Pinckney, Teresa Stickels, Joe Lamp'l,
Lynna Lee, Bika Bloor.
I. Agenda: It was posted on the City's web site.
II. Minutes: July 2014 were approved.
Ill. Updates and New Business:
• Rivers Alive: Jack reported that he will divide the city into 4 quadrants like last year and have
Bruce Langston, Michael Pletts, Marc Mazur and possibly Bika Bloor help to identify sites that
need to be cleaned up. Teresa volunteered to contact the Milton HS French teacher who has
helped in the past. Cindy will contact the Rotary Club of Alpharetta to list on the NF Day of
Service which is taking place the same day. Francia will update flyer.
• Adopt-A-Road: Julie reported that she has called and confirmed all the AAR groups and
their continued participation. Most volunteers are going to continue. The groups not
continuing are: Crabapple Landscape (Deerfield), Verizon Deerfield and Morris Rd., Patti
Silva and Pattie Blohm (Dinsmore), Hopewell MS (Cogburn). Cambridge HS will take over
the Hopewell segment on Cogburn from Cambridge South to Webb Rd. Julie suggested we
make the signs into pOSSible awards for the groups (Cindy was told the signs are reused so
this is not an option.) 34 additional signs have been ordered (for 17 segments-2 per segment)
and signage should be changed out in the near future. We still have about 12 more signs to
print (will be done in Oct. in 2015 budget.)
• Adopt-A-Stream: New reporting program for both Adopt a Road and Adopt a Stream
programs www.miltonaadot.setmore.com
• Evergreen Schools: Cindy reported STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is a
big emphasis in FC schools and we want to relate Environmental Education to those
standards. Have met with the FC stem coordinators in North Fulton and they were very
excited about the Evergreen program and think it definitely relates to the science curriculum.
The Evergreen coordinators have been invited to a meeting of all curriculum support teachers
to present the program and the classroom resources we offer, on Oct. 2. Francia designed an
awesome new Evergreen School logo and we have a new points and award program for
schools this year. Lynna and Kathy J. provided input.
• MGG Structure Reorganization: There was a long discussion about some changes to the
bylaws that a subcommittee has been working on for several months. Bylaws will need to be
approved by Chris, and Jack and I will meet with him before the next meeting with the plans
for the committee to approve the bylaws. Council will need to approve bylaws.
• Code Violation: Bika asked if zoning allowed cars to be parked on non-developed property
across from the Union restaurant. Cindy said she would check and get back to Bika.
