GREEN Milton Grows Green Committee Meeting March 8, 2016 6:30pm - 8:00pm Executive Conference Room, City Hall Present: Jack Lindon (MGG Chair), Jennifer Griffiths, Francia Lindon, Jon McPhail, Bika. Bloor, Bruce Langston, Jasmine Bloor (Visitor), Cristell Perkins (Visitor), Conner Perkins (Visitor), Renee Stidston (Visitor), Teresa Stickels (Staff) 1. Minutes were approved for October and November 2015 and January and February 2016. 2. Updates (None) 3. Old Business Bulky Trash was held March 5th. 233 Milton residents participated. In addition to the trash sent to the landfill, many items were sorted for recycling (a large number of appliances and 11 Gaylord boxes of electronics). There was a discussion of the pros and cons of MGG supporting the Bulky Trash event. Jon McPhail proposed the following statement: "We resolve to continue to support Bulky Trash Day with renewed interest and emphasis on repurposing and finding outlets for items taken to Bulky Trash other than landfills and that we use this event as an educational opportunity." Francia Lindon seconded the statement. The vote to approve this statement was unanimous. Hazardous Household Chemical and Paint Collection event will be held March 19th at Cambridge High School. Registration is underway. Earth Day Bika. asked for us to save wine corks and T-P tubes for children's crafts. The next meeting related to the Green space Bond will be March 10th. The Planning Commission has asked for out input on this. The Trust for Public Lands has been hired as a consultant on this effort. 4. New Business There was a discussion of MGG goals and activities for 2016 (and beyond). Jon McPhail read the MGG founding document and said that the MGG activities list that was sent out before the meeting, was incomplete in that it didn't mention land use activities. MGG was represented by at least one member on the majority of City committees related to land use initiatives. Suggestions for MGG-sponsored workshops: Septic Systems, Rain barrels, Adopt -a - Stream Training, Composting. Also, there was a suggestion that MGG develop programs that will meet the needs of the all communities within the city. Involve students in a contest: Who can collect the most recyclable material at football games? Enforce fines for littering - post a 800 number for reporting.
