HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - BT - 06-03-2013 BETTER TOGETHER Action Agenda June 3, 2013 Updates from Meeting are Posted in Red Meeting Attendees – Listing of those Present and Guests Kent Alexander Hope Peaks Wayne Boston Karen Stanley Teri Harrison Maddy Stanley Meredith Johnson Nancilee Wolfe Vonda Marbrough Events and Activities (Past) –  Milton Memorial Day Ceremony held on Monday, May 27 It was reported that the ceremony was a huge success with an overflowing crowd.  Public Safety Workshop held on Thursday, May 30 It was reported that some 20 residents attended the workshop which lasted approximately 1 ½ hours. The event was videotaped by Jason Wright and an excerpt will be placed on Facebook. In addition, two boxes of canned goods were collected and donated to North Fulton Community Charities.  Communiteen Event held on Saturday, June 1 The event was successful with approximately 20 teens attending from several different schools in the Milton area. Events and Activities (Future) –  Finance for your Teenager – Tentative Date is Thursday, July 18 at Bethwell Document It was reported that Peyton had communicated with the Wells Fargo individual who would be leading the program and they had agreed that July 18 would be the date of the class. It will be held at the Bethwell Community Center and will begin at 6:00 pm.  Communiteen Event – Saturday, August 24 at Bethwell Plans for this event include decorating t-shirts and working on wooden hearts for The Milton Love Project. Possible Projects/Activities –  Support of MD Junior – Discuss Living Room Conversation Possibility It was reported that Shaun Verma and his family would be relocating to Texas. In view of this move, further conversations would be taking place with Shaun in order to identify ways in which Better Together might assist MD Junior.  Update on New Milton Library – Tentative Date is Thursday, September 26 It was reported that Matt Kunz, Milton City Councilman, has been named the new President of the Friends of the Milton Library Board of Directors. Matt will be leading this update which is scheduled to be held at the Bethwell Community Center on Thursday, September 26 beginning at 7:00 pm.  Working with Senior Services of North Fulton – Melinda Ross It was reported that Melinda Ross has been named the Center Manager for the Milton Senior Center. Melinda will be joining us at the June 17 Better Together meeting to provide an update on the activities and programs for the Center.  Hopewell Middle School – Painting Project in September Timeframe Nancilee will provide additional details on this possible project within the next couple of months. Open Discussion – Consider Future Activities and Projects It was reported that the Milton Grows Green Committee administers the Adopt-A-Road program for the City of Milton. In summary, once an entity’s application has been approved for this program, the entity commits to a minimum of four clean ups to be performed within a year. All Document materials and supplies are provided by the City. More detailed information will be provided to the Better Together committee with a view toward perhaps participating in the program. North Fulton Community Charities – Vonda Malbrough (Development Director) Vonda Malbrough provided an excellent overview on the work of NFCC. She stated that NFCC charities offered assistance to some 5,000 families in 2012. This assistance included such basic needs as food and clothing and help with utility bills. In addition, the center now has an education center which provides Adult Education Classes. Vonda added that there are many ways in which volunteers can help the center. Examples include working in the food pantry and thrift shop, providing financial support, donations of clothing and furniture and job coaching. Next Meeting – Bethwell Community Center – June 17, 2013
