She recently retired from General Electric after a 22-year career. Events and Activities (Past) –  Cystic Fibrosis Cycle For Life Event – June 9, 2013 It was reported that Better Together assisted with the 40-mile cycling event by hosting the rest stop station at the half-way point. Some 17 cyclists participated in the event. Also, an important lesson was learned---one should refer to them as “cyclists” and not “bikers!”  Hopewell Middle School Painting Project for Girl Scouts – June 15, 2013 This project is actually located at Cogburn Woods Elementary School. It was reported that on June 15, Better Together participated with the Girl Scouts and worked for about two hours on the project. Since there is still a significant amount of work to be completed, plans are to ask the Young Men’s Service League for their assistance. Events and Activities (Future) –  Finance for Teenagers – Scheduled Date is Thursday, July 18 at 6:00 pm at Bethwell – Discuss Ways to Publicize Peyton reported that Jeffrey Wolff of Wells Fargo would be leading the session. A question was raised as to whether or not parents 2 would be invited to participate in the meeting. Peyton will check with Jeffrey on this point.  Communiteen Event – Saturday, August 24 at Bethwell Plans for this event include decorating t-shirts and working on wooden hearts for The Milton Love Project.  Update on New Milton Library – Scheduled Date is Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 pm at Bethwell It was reported that Matt Kunz would be leading this session. Possible Projects/Activities –  Support of MD Junior – Current Status Sharon is coordinating with Shaun Verma in order to determine ways in which Better Together might assist MD Junior with the efforts.  North Fulton Community Charities – Ways to Work Together It was reported that Wayne and Teri would be meeting with NFCC next week for the purpose of determining specific projects that Better Together might undertake in support of NFCC.  Milton Grows Green – Adopt-A-Road Program Wayne to continue discussions with Cindy Eade on the possibility of Better Together’s participation in this program. It Takes a Village – Milton Style It was reported that four Milton High School students had taken their lives this year. In view of these tragedies, a group has been formed by concerned citizens for the purpose of discussing ways in which the community might learn more about teen suicide and what can be done to address this very serious problem. A panel discussion focusing on teen suicide is scheduled for July 2 at 7:00 PM at the Alpharetta Government Center Courthouse. John Trautwein will be the guest speaker. Open Discussion No matters presented. Senior Services of North Fulton – Melinda Ross, Center Manager, Milton Senior Center 3 Melinda Ross provided an overview of the new Milton Senior Center. For the next year or so, the center will operate out of the Community of Christ Church located on Francis Road. Registration and Center Previews will be held during the week of June 24 and July 1 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The center will have its official opening day on July 15. Better Together will continue to have discussions with Melinda for the purpose of determining how our group might assist her with respect to the Center’s programs, activities and needs. Next Meeting – Bethwell Community Center – July 1, 2013 Wayne volunteered to host the next meeting at his home on July 1. Details will be provided to the group. A gourmet meal consisting of hamburgers, hot dogs and all the trimmings is being proposed.
