Parents are invited to attend with their teenagers.  Communiteen Event – Saturday, August 24 at Bethwell Ansley reported that teens from The Lionheart School would be invited to attend the event. It was emphasized that our group needs to be prepared to address any particular needs of the attendees. In this regard, Ansley will speak with one of the teachers at Lionheart in order to gain more knowledge. It was also suggested that perhaps a brief training session prior to the event would be worthwhile for the Better Together team. A “buddy” system was suggested as perhaps one way to ensure that those who attend that have special needs feel a real sense of inclusion and are having a good time. It was agreed that we would ask those who planned to attend the event to commit in advance (RSVP). For the event itself, Amanda agreed to coordinate with Megan Jamison on the needed paint supplies.  Update on New Milton Library – Scheduled Date is Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 pm at Bethwell – Councilman Matt Kunz It was reported that this “Living Room Conversation” is confirmed.  Representative Jan Jones to speak – Scheduled Date is Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm at City Hall. Possible Projects/Activities –  Support of MD Junior – Current Status In view of Shaun Verma’s planned trip to Honduras being delayed until the first part of 2014, it was agreed that this project would be 3 removed from the agenda at this time and would be considered at a later date.  North Fulton Community Charities – Ways to Work Together It was reported that Teri and Wayne had met with Vonda Malbrough and Eden Purdy of NFCC in order to identify specific ways in which Better Together could provide support with respect to their programs. Teri recommended that as an initial effort our group focus on the collection of notebook paper. It was suggested that this could be accomplished by sending communications to residents in various subdivisions and identifying a central collection location for the paper products. Also, a City news release publicizing the program would be considered.  Milton Grows Green – Adopt-A-Road Program It was recommended that Better Together continue consideration of adopting a road in Milton in order to participate in this program. One road possibility recommended for consideration was Dinsmore Road, previously adopted by Patti Silva. Barbara Peck will be coordinating with Cindy Eade on this program.  Milton Senior Center Sharon stated that the new Milton Senior Center was in need of several items as it begins operations at Community of Christ Church on Francis Road. Wayne stated that he would distribute the “supplies needed list” to the group and request that they contribute to the extent possible. We also discussed other ways in which our Better Together group might contribute to the Senior Center. Possibilities included having several of the youth in our group involved in music perform for the Senior citizens.  Milton Love Project Amanda recommended that the work of the MLP be extended to include the Communiteen group. Ansley, one of the founders of Communiteen, was in favor of this recommendation. It Takes a Village – Milton Style – Event on July 2 Amanda informed the group that in view of the recent suicide tragedies at Milton High School, a group had been formed for the purpose of bringing the community together to identify ways in which to address this very serious issue. Several very informed and experienced speakers would be participating. The event’s primary presenter will be John Trautwein. Open Discussion Next Meeting – Bethwell Community Center – July 15, 2013
