HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - BT - 08-05-2013 BETTER TOGETHER Action Agenda August 5, 2013 Updates from Meeting are Posted in Red Meeting Attendees – Listing of those Present and Guests Wayne Boston Jackie Mason Kathie Graham Barbara Peck Sharon Lockwood Events and Activities (Past) –  Finance for Teenagers – Held on July 18 It was reported that the Finance for Teenagers class was very successful with approximately 22 teenagers and parents in attendance.  Cogburn Woods Elementary School – Fence Project It was reported that this project (painting of a 500-foot steel fence) was now complete. Better Together participated with the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and the Young Men’s Service League with respect to the painting. A celebration ice cream party is scheduled at 7:00 pm on August 5 to celebrate this accomplishment. Events and Activities (Future) –  North Fulton Community Charities – o Notebook Paper Drive It was reported that approximately six boxes of notebook paper and various supplies had been collected for NFCC with respect to its Back-To-School Program. o August 10 Volunteer Event Document It was reported that several members of Better Together would be volunteering at NFCC for the Back-To-School Program where some 1,500 students are expected.  Communiteen Event – Saturday, August 24 at Bethwell It was reported that this event is scheduled to be held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Ansley, Meredith and Nancilee are scheduled to meet in order to finalize plans for this event.  Update on New Milton Library – Scheduled Date is Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 pm at Bethwell – Councilman Matt Kunz This Living Room Conversation is confirmed. A news release will be distributed to the community publicizing this event and requesting that book donations be brought to the meeting by attendees.  Representative Jan Jones to speak – Scheduled Date is Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm at City Hall It was reported that arrangements had been finalized through the office of Representative Jan Jones for this event. A news release will be distributed to the community inviting all citizens to attend.  Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann – TBD It is expected that this Living Room Conversation will take place in the December timeframe and will be held at the Bethwell Community Center. Possible Projects/Activities –  Milton Senior Center – Needs It was reported that the new Milton Senior Center was still in need of various supplies and volunteers. The Better Together group is encouraged to help in any way possible.  Milton Grows Green – Adopt-A-Road Program Barbara reported that Better Together’s application for the Adopt-A- Road Program had been accepted. Our section will be Thompson Road beginning at Redd Road and extending to Country Ridge Road. Our first clean-up is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 21.  Rivers Alive Program Barbara reported that this year’s Rivers Alive Program is scheduled for Saturday, October 19. It is anticipated that Better Together will Document participate in this annual activity led by the Milton Grows Green Committee.  Milton High School Football Game – August 30 – Volunteers It was reported that a couple of volunteers are needed to help distribute City of Milton materials to those arriving for the Milton High School’s first football game of 2013. The volunteers will be needed from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Young Men’s Service League – Kathie Graham and Jackie Mason Kathie Graham and Jackie Mason, leaders from the Milton Chapter of the Young Men’s Service League, discussed the activities of the YMSL organization within the Milton community. During the most recent year, it served some 18 agencies with its volunteer efforts. Agencies supported included the City of Milton, the Ronald McDonald House, Meals on Wheels, Special Equestrians and Study Pals. Next Meeting – Bethwell Community Center – August 19, 2013
