HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - BT - 09-09-2013 BETTER TOGETHER Action Agenda September 9, 2013 Meeting Attendees – Listing of those Present and Guests Kent Alexander Peyton Jamison Wayne Boston Sharon Lockwood Teri Harrison Barbara Peck Inika Jain Carly Tucci Omie Jain Jackie Tucci Events and Activities (Past) –  Milton Senior Center – Ribbon Cutting on August 22 It was reported that the Grand Opening was a huge success with over 100 in attendance at the event, including the Mayor, City Council and Fulton County Government officials. It was also reported that an additional 100 horseshoes were provided to the Senior Center by Better Together for use by the senior adults.  Communiteen Event – Saturday, August 24 at Bethwell It was reported that this event was well attended by the Communiteen group. Approximately 20 teenagers, while getting to know each a little better, painted wooden heart magnets and decorated tee shirts. Events and Activities (Future) –  Adopt-a-Road Program – Saturday, September 21 Barbara reported that she would have the necessary vests, trash bags and other items needed for our clean-up on September 21. Plans are to meet at 9:00 am. We will begin with a brief safety meeting. All participants under the age of 18 will need special permission to 2 participate. Wayne said that he would send out an email several days before the event to confirm participation.  Update on New Milton Library – September 26 at 7:00 pm It was reported that a City news release would be sent out shortly publicizing the event. Our Better Together group will offer to pick up books from those who wish to donate. o Book Donations o Dessert/Coffee Sign-Up  High School Football Game – September 27 – Volunteers Needed Wayne and Teri agreed to handle this activity where City materials will be distributed to those attending the football game.  Representative Jan Jones to speak – Scheduled Date is Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm at City Hall All is set for this event. A City news release will be issued 3 to 4 weeks prior to the event.  Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann – TBD Plans are to hold this Living Room Conversation in the January 2014 timeframe. Possible Projects/Activities –  Crabapple Fest – Saturday, October 5 It was reported that a few Better Together volunteers would be needed to help at the City’s information table.  Milton Grows Green – Rivers Alive – Saturday, October 19 Barbara will provide information to the group at a later meeting on this activity.  North Fulton Community Charities – Coat Drive Teri is in communication with NFCC and will provide more information to the group as to the timing of this activity. Coats, both children’s and adults, and hats are to be a part of the drive. Open Discussion  Carly mentioned to the group that her uncle was in Afghanistan. We discussed ways in which to thank him for his efforts. Writing letters to him was one of the possibilities that we discussed. 3  In addition to the coat drive, Teri mentioned a couple of other projects/activities for consideration. These include additional ways in which to help with our seniors and ways to honor our veterans. Next Meeting – Bethwell Community Center – September 23, 2013
