Some 22 residents attended the event which lasted for over an hour, including Q&A. In addition, seven boxes of books were collected for donation to the library.  High School Football Game – Cambridge on September 27 It was reported that Wayne and Teri passed out information prior to the Cambridge/Pope football game relating to the upcoming Crabapple Fest. Many of the folks attending the game were already familiar with the upcoming festival.  It Takes a Village – Teen Anxiety on October 1 It Takes a Village – Milton Style had its third meeting at the Alpharetta Government Center. It was also reported that the AJC had recently written an article on the community’s response to the suicide tragedies at Milton High School.  Crabapple Fest – October 5 2 Peyton reported that the festival had great weather and that the organizers and planners for the festival were very pleased with the attendance. Events and Activities (Future) –  Representative Jan Jones to speak – Scheduled Date is Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm at City Hall It was reported that a City news release would be distributed within the next few days publicizing this event. All in Better Together were encouraged to attend and to also invite their friends and neighbors.  North Fulton Community Charities – Coat Drive It was reported that Teri is spearheading Better Together’s efforts with respect to the collection of coats and various items for the annual coat drive. Certain locations will be established to drop-off the items, including one at City Hall.  Milton Grows Green – Rivers Alive – Saturday, October 19 Barbara reported that those volunteers wishing to participate in the Rivers Alive effort are to meet at Bailey Farm and Gardens at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 19. In addition, Barbara mentioned other Milton Grows Green activities that are scheduled in the future. These include: Bring One for the Chipper – January 4, 2014 Earth Day – April 19, 2014  Schedule for next Adopt-a-Road Clean-up Barbara reported that our Better Together signs are expected to be erected in the near future. She also reported that our next clean-up would be scheduled for the March 2014 timeframe.  Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann – January Timeframe It was reported that we are working with Liz Hausmann’s office in order to schedule a Living Room Conversation in the January timeframe. The plans are to hold this event at the Bethwell Community Center. Possible Projects/Activities –  Community of Christ Church – November 3 – Pet Blessing It was reported that Better Together will be working with Tass Welch in order to identify ways in which our group might be able to 3 support and participate with the Community of Christ Church in this activity.  Little Free Library Opportunity Nancilee reported that she had been researching this organization which provides an opportunity for residents to “take a book, return a book” free of charge. They are some 10,000 of these “libraries” located throughout communities in the United States. It was the consensus of the Better Together group that we should give strong consideration to sponsoring a couple of these libraries in Milton. Peyton said that he would research the possibility of locating a library in the Crabapple area. A recommendation was made that perhaps a desirable location for an additional library would be in the new Deerfield Park. Wayne stated that he would follow up with the City on this possibility.  Communiteen Events in the Future Nancilee reported that Ansley and Meredith are identifying possible dates for future Communiteen events so that they can be included on the Bethwell Community Center schedule.  Christmas Gathering for Better Together – December 2 Nancilee reported that she and Maddy would like to coordinate a Christmas gathering for the group. Plans are to hold the event at Wayne’s home at our regular Better Together meeting day in December. Tass Welch – Associate Pastor, Community of Christ Church Tass, one of the original Better Together members, summarized a number of activities in which she and her church are involved. These include the new Milton Senior Center which meets at Community of Christ Church where Tass serves and the Milton Disability Awareness Community which Tass chairs. Tass also discussed the Pet Blessing Day scheduled for November 3 that is being sponsored by her church. She stated that the church would be needing assistance in preparing the “goody bags” that are to be given to those attending the Pet Blessing. Better Together agreed that we would identify ways in which we could help. Next Meeting – Bethwell Community Center – October 21, 2013
