The final count was 63 coats and jackets, plus assorted scarves, ties and gloves. All in all, the coat drive was a huge success.  Pet Blessing Day – Community of Christ Church Better Together participated with Tass Welsh in the Pet Blessing Day by selling horseshoes that had been painted and decorated by the seniors from the Milton Senior Center. Members of the community were invited to bring their pets to the event in order to receive a special blessing. Donations were also accepted in order to support Daffy’s Soup Kitchen for Pets, an organization that provides food to pets that are in need. Events and Activities (Future) –  Veterans Day – Freedom Park Ribbon Cutting – November 11 2 The group was reminded that the new Freedom Park would be hosting the Veterans Day ceremony beginning at 10:45 am on Monday, November 11. The park is located at the corner of Deerfield Parkway and Webb Road.  Adopt-a-Road Clean-up – March 2014 All were reminded that our next road clean-up will be scheduled for the first quarter of 2014. We have a quarterly commitment to conduct a road clean-up at least quarterly. Signs indicating that Better Together has adopted a portion of Thompson Road are to be placed in the near future.  Christmas Gathering for Better Together – December 2 Nancilee, Karen and Maddy are planning the Christmas event which will take place at Wayne’s home. Possible Projects/Activities –  Little Free Library Nancilee summarized this project and outlined plans for the Little Free Library. Hopefully, the first one will be located in the Crabapple area.  Communiteen Event – December 7 or 14 Nancilee reported that plans are to hold the final Communiteen Event for 2013 at the Bethwell Community Center on December 7 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  NFCC – Senior Sponsorship It was reported that Better Together will participate with North Fulton Community Charities in its annual program whereby a senior 65 and older or a disabled adult will be sponsored. Sponsors are to provide Thanksgiving non-perishable meal items with a small gift or gift cards. Teri Harrison is coordinating Better Together’s efforts with respect to this project. Better Together Meeting Schedule for 2014 It was reported that the proposed Better Together meeting schedule for 2014 had previously been sent to all members. It is very similar to the schedule being used in 2013. The only significant change relates to the month of July 2014 where only one meeting will be scheduled. 3 Open Discussion A possible new program with a goal of bringing together Milton-area residents and the business community was discussed. Basically, once the program is operational, a business would host an event whereby the public would be invited to learn more about the service or product that is provided by the particular business.
