Events and Activities (Past) –
Veterans Day – Freedom Park Ribbon Cutting – November 11
The opening of Freedom Park was a huge success with some 100
people in attendance. The ceremony included raising flags of all the
armed services of the United States. US Representative Tom Price
was the guest speaker. The park is very beautiful and includes
several workout stations for those who want to exercise while in the
park.
Book Donations for the New Library
Book donations continue to come in for the new library. It was
reported that five boxes of books were collected the previous week.
Events and Activities (Future) –
NFCC – Senior Sponsorship
2
Teri reported that our Better Together group will be participating
with North Fulton Community Charities in their Senior Sponsorship
for Thanksgiving. In that effort, we are asking for food items and
funds for gift cards. Our seniors are a couple (over 65) that lives in
the Johns Creek-area. After collection of the food items and the funds
for the gift cards, a gift basket will be prepared and delivered to
NFCC for the couple.
We also discussed sponsoring a family for Christmas. Teri made the
group aware of health and other struggles by a lady and her family
who works at a local Milton business. Teri will find out more
information on what this family needs in order to make their Holiday
season a bit more joyful and will make a recommendation to our
group.
Christmas Gathering for Better Together – December 2
Nancilee reported that she, Hope, Ken, Kent, Karen and Maddy had
met in order to plan for our Christmas party at Wayne’s house. A
sign-up sheet was passed around so that individuals could bring side
dishes. Steak and Chicken kabobs will be served as the main course.
We also will be exchanging “white elephant gifts.”
Adopt-a-Road Clean-up – March 2014
We will schedule a road clean-up in March 2014. This will be the
second time we have cleaned up our section of Thompson Road.
Possible Projects/Activities –
Little Free Library
Nancilee reported that we are still planning on participating in this
project. Various locations for a “little” library are being investigated
and the hope is that we will have our first one in place by spring
2014.
Communiteen Event – December 14
Nancilee reported that the Communiteen group was in process of
planning this event which will take place at the Bethwell Community
Center from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, December 14.

Better Together Goals for 2014
Living Room Conversations/Speakers – Quarterly
Wayne reported that conversations of this type will be continued in
the future, hopefully, on a quarterly basis.
Welcoming New Residents to Milton
We are continuing to explore ways in which to welcome new
residents to Milton. Ideas included providing new residents with
information on Milton (Newcomer’s Guide) and other information.
Connecting Businesses and Residents
It was reported that the group has plans to engage businesses and
residents by hosting informal meeting sessions. At these gatherings,
the business would be able to discuss their particular service and/or
products. Sharon Branigan and Freeda Bush have agreed to help in
this effort.
City of Milton – Preserving Our History
Wayne reported that ways to capture Milton’s history are being
investigated. Suggestions on ways to accomplish this included
having presentations where individuals are audio and/or video
taped so that the information will be available to others in the future.
Travis Allen, Chairman of the Historical Preservation Commission
(HPC) in Milton, was in attendance at this meeting and offered his
perspective. It was agreed that Better Together would keep the HPC
informed as to the progress of this initiative.
Other Matters
Amanda reported that the City of Milton has acquired ownership of
certain property on Hopewell Road that has been somewhat of an
“eyesore” to the community. Amanda suggested that there may be
opportunities for our Better Together group to participate in the
clean-up of this property.
Ringling Brothers Circus – The City of Milton is offering ten sets (4
tickets in each set) of tickets to families with children that have
special needs. Amanda and Wayne will be working together on
identifying families who are interested in attending the event.
Next Meeting – Home of Wayne Boston – December 2, 2013
