been updated. The site now includes a link to the meeting schedule for
2014.
Events and Activities (Past) –
Milton Disability Awareness Committee – December 11
Wayne reported that he attended the MDAC meeting on December 11.
The meeting included presentations by representatives from the Milton
Police and the Milton Fire Department. It was also reported that Better
Together and MDAC will look for opportunities to work together,
particularly as it relates to programming opportunities.
Communiteen Event on December 14
Ansley reported that the Communiteen group had a very successful
final event for 2013 at the Bethwell Community Center. The teenagers
decorated cookies, played games and collected donations for North
Fulton Community Charities. Ansley also reported that Emily Johnson,
2
a junior at Milton High School, would be taking on a leadership role in
the future with the group.
Support of Family at Christmas
At the Christmas Party on December 2, our Better Together group began
collecting donations in order to support a special family at Christmas.
These donations, together with other donations, were used to purchase
gift cards for groceries. Teri Harrison and several other ladies surprised
our special lady by showing up at her work place and giving her over
$800 for her family’s use at Christmas. Obviously, the lady was very
touched by the generosity shown by our Better Together group and
others.
Projects and Activities for 2014 – Continuing from 2013
The group reviewed the list of projects and activities that were completed
in 2013. Items discussed included:
Better Together Meetings – Will continue to meet twice-monthly.
NFCC – Continue our support of non-profit organization.
Communiteen Support – Continue working with this group in
support of their activities.
Facebook – One of our primary communication tools. Hopefully will
increase “likes” to 250 from 149.
Disability Awareness Committee and Milton Grows Green –
Continue to find ways to partner with these two committees
whenever possible.
Adopt-a-Road – Better Together adopted a portion of Thompson
Road in 2013 and will continue its quarterly clean-up activities in
2014.
Living Room Conversations – Plans are to hold events of this type on
a quarterly basis.
Senior Services – Continue to find ways to support Milton’s Senior
Center.
Promote City – Provide support to the City by attending events and
distributing materials of interest to citizens.
Projects and Activities for 2014 – New (Current Status)
Welcoming New Residents
3
The Better Together group continues to investigate ways in which to
welcome new residents to the City of Milton. In the coming months,
many new families will be moving into the area as evidenced by the
number of building permits being issued. One way to reach these
families would be through mailing information to these new residents.
The mailing would consist of a welcome letter from the mayor and a
Newcomer’s Guide.
Connecting Residents and Businesses
It was reported that a committee of Better Together members has been
formed to work on this initiative. Barbara Peck, Sharon Branigan and
Freeda Bush are members of the committee.
Capturing Milton’s History
It was reported that planning continues to move forward as ways are
identified to present and capture Milton’s history. Norm Broadwell is
working to identify several individuals who could assist in this effort.
Little Free Library
Plans are to build and make available a Little Free Library in the Milton-
area during 2014. There are some 10,000 of these libraries located
throughout the United States.
