Welcoming New Residents Initiative – June Mailing It was reported that approximately 100 home sales occurred in Milton during the month of May. Mailings to these new homeowners will take place during the following week. Each mailing consists of a welcoming letter from Mayor Lockwood, together with a copy of the Milton Newcomer’s Guide. It was reported that this list will be placed on the Better Together and City of Milton Facebook sites in order to provide the public with an opportunity to comment. The results will be used in connection with planning for future events to be hosted by Better Together. 3 Open Discussion Meeting attendees were reminded of the recent challenges (financial and family-related) being faced by Maddie Haskins, a young lady who recently graduated from Cambridge High School and who works at Karate Atlanta. Maddie is in need of financial help and encouragement as she begins her college studies at Georgia State University. All Better Together members were encouraged to consider helping Maddie. Teri reported that over $10,000 had been raised in order to assist Maddie as she begins college. Rainbeau Orchids – Don and Sue Baker Don and Sue Baker, owners of Rainbeau Orchids (RO), were welcomed to the meeting. Their grandson, Gabe, was also in attendance. Don provided background on the business of RO. Highlights included:  RO started business in 2006 in Milton.  The majority of sales comes from the wholesale side of the business.  There is a desire to increase retail sales and attempts have been made through various forms of advertising to accomplish this goal; however, such sales continue to remain only a very small portion of the business. A question and answer period followed Don’s presentation. It was agreed that discussions would continue with a view toward perhaps Better Together joining with RO for the purpose of hosting an event in the September timeframe. This event would be a continuation of Better Together’s new initiative which has as its purpose to connect residents with Milton’s businesses. Next Meeting – July 14 – Home of Nancilee and Ken Wolfe
