Events and Activities –
North Fulton Day of Service (October 18)
It was reported that efforts are underway to create a “day of service” in
the North Fulton area. Various projects are being identified and
organizations are being encouraged to volunteer their members to
participate. Examples of projects already identified include work at
North Fulton Community Charities, the Drake House, Canine Assistants
and The Lionheart School. Better Together will continue to work
toward identifying a possible project or activity to complete on October
18.
Crabapple Fest – October 4 – Volunteer Opportunities
It was reported that there are volunteer opportunities available to those
who wish to help with Crabapple Fest. Opportunities available include
helping with the Milton Disability Awareness Committee. A form was
passed around at the meeting so that individuals could sign-up for time
slots on October 4.

Better Together is looking forward to hosting the event with
Commissioner-Elect Bob Ellis on November 6. A large crowd is
expected to attend this event.
North Fulton Community Charities – Family Sponsorship
Teri Harrison reported that there are several opportunities to assist
North Fulton Community Charities during the fall timeframe. For
example, the “Warm Coat Drive” and the “Family Sponsorship”
opportunity at Christmas. It was reported that Better Together did help
a family during 2013. Teri will be contacting NFCC in order to let them
know that our group would like to sponsor a family this Christmas.

Welcoming New Residents Initiative – August Mailings (20)
Mailings during the summer are somewhat less than they were earlier in
the year as evidenced by only 20 home closings in August. This is perhaps
due to families moving into the area in time for their children to begin
school. Still, it is anticipated that approximately 800 homes will be sold
and/or built within the next twelve-month period.
Open Discussion
Communiteen – Since the leaders of this group are now in college, there is
a need to find a student in one of the high schools to take on a leadership
role. Maddy volunteered to speak with one of the Milton High School
teachers (Ms. Naterman) in order to discuss a possible next step in the
group’s desire to find a teenager(s) to assume a leadership role.
Crabapple Community Association – Nancilee invited all to attend
Thursday’s meeting (September 11) of the CCA where Chris Lagerbloom,
Milton’s City Manager, would be speaking.
Christmas Gathering – Tentative plans were made to have a Christmas
gathering for the group on Monday, December 8, the scheduled Better
Together meeting date in December. Wayne and Nancilee agreed to take
the lead in the planning for this event.
Kerri Groen – Director of Community Partners at Assisted Choice
Kerri provided information on the services provided by Assisted Choice.
Kerri explained that Assisted Choice provides assistance and advice to
families seeking information on the care and placement of seniors in
transition.
Next Meeting – September 22 – Bethwell Community Center
Kimberly Brock, Milton resident and Georgia Author of the Year 2013, will
be joining us to speak about her vision for a writer’s workshop in Milton.
All were encouraged to attend the September 22 meeting where Kimberly
Brock, Georgia Author of the Year 2013, would be speaking.
