Events and Activities (Past) –
Rainbeau Orchids Event – September 18
It was reported that the business connection event at Rainbeau Orchids
held on September 18 was very successful. Approximately 40/50
attended and had the opportunity to learn more about the proper care of
orchids from Sue Baker, owner and operator. All who attended were
given a free orchid with their purchase and raffles were held each hour
for a special gift orchid.
Crabapple Fest – October 4
This year’s Crabapple Fest was very successful attracting some 25,000
folks during the day of the event. Several of our Better Together
members volunteered in various ways.
Events and Activities (Future) –
Adopt-A-Road Clean-Up – October 25 at 9 am
Our third Better Together road clean-up is scheduled for Saturday,
October 15. Barbara Peck is coordinating this effort.
An Evening with Fulton County Commissioner-Elect Bob Ellis –
November 6 at City Hall Chambers at 7 pm

A new release will be distributed toward the middle of October
publicizing this event. Bob will be speaking for about 30/45 minutes
and will be taking questions afterwards. At the conclusion of the event,
dessert, coffee and refreshments will be provided to all.
Septic System Workshop – November 20 – 7:30 pm at City Hall
It was reported that Better Together and Milton Grows Green will be
jointly sponsoring a “Septic System Workshop” on Thursday,
November 20. Information relating to this event was in the October
Monthly Milton Newsletter. An additional release will be distributed a
couple of weeks prior to the event.
North Fulton Community Charities – Family Sponsorship
(Christmas)
As previously reported, our Better Together group will be sponsoring a
family this Christmas by providing gifts and other items. Teri Harrison
is leading this effort for our group. In order to provide the needed
funds, we will be asking for donations from our Better Together
members a few weeks prior to Christmas.
Connecting Residents with Businesses –
CJ’s Talk of the Town
o Scheduled for Saturday, October 18 – 2 pm to 5 pm
o Current Status
Plans are moving along nicely for the fourth Better Together business
connection event to take place at CJ’s Talk of the Town on Saturday,
October 18. Nothing Bundt Cakes and Edible Arrangements will also
be participating and will have samples of their products available for
the public. CJ, the owner of the business, will be providing fashion tips
for all the attendees. Miss Atlanta will also be attending on the day of
the event.
Future Events –
o J3 Academy & Fitness
o Milton Fields
It was reported that future business connection events are tentatively
planned to take place at J3 Academy & Fitness and Milton Fields during
the first quarter of 2015. J3 Academy & Fitness is a business located on
Highway 9 that focuses on self-defense instruction for women. Milton
Fields is a “green cemetery” located on Birmingham Road.

Open Discussion
Senior Needs – Lisa McGrath spoke about the critical need of funding for
the meals on wheels program in North Fulton County and urged our
members to support this program in any way possible. Lisa also reported
that the Mayor’s Annual BBQ (City of Roswell) will be on October 25. Each
year, an organization is selected to receive support from ticket sales for this
event. Senior Services of North Fulton has been selected for 2014.
Better Together Christmas Party for 2014 – This year’s Holiday celebration
will be held at the Bethwell Community Center on Monday, December 8.
Free Writer’s Workshop – Wayne reported discussions are taking place
with Kimberly Brock with a view toward holding a free writer’s workshop
that will be offered to the community prior to year end. Kimberly, Georgia
Author of the Year 2013, recently spoke at one of our Better Together
meetings.
Better Together Meeting Schedule for 2015 – Wayne reported that he is
preparing the Better Together meeting schedule for 2015. Plans are to meet
twice-monthly, except for June, July, August and December. During these
months, plans are to meet monthly.
Jim Bell – Creator and Owner of Milton Fields Natural Burial Ground
Jim Bell provided a very interesting presentation on Milton Fields, a “green
cemetery,” located on Birmingham Road. Among other things, Jim
explained that a burial at Milton Fields is very cost effective given the high
prices for burial now being required at most funeral homes. Tentative
plans are to arrange for one of Better Together’s business connection events
at Milton Fields during the first couple of months of 2015.
