Among other things, Commissioner-Elect Ellis emphasized that he would be fiscally conservative when it comes to spending the money of the taxpayers. After his remarks, he responded to a number of questions from the attendees. He will be sworn into office in January 2015.  Milton’s First Veteran’s Day Ceremony – November 11 Milton’s First Veteran’s Day Ceremony was held in Freedom Park on November 11 and was attended by some 100 veterans. A highlight of the program included the display of some 150 wooden “star” signs painted by school children and senior adults. This effort was led by Debbie Daviadoff, founder of the Milton Veterans Project. Plans are to eventually have over 400 of these signs on display for future events which would represent all the living veterans in Milton.  Free Writer’s Workshop – Bethwell – November 16 2 The two-hour workshop was a huge success with some 32 residents in attendance. Attendees ranged in age from high school students to senior adults. Given the success of this initial activity, more literary opportunities of this type will be considered for the future. Events and Activities (Future) –  Septic System Workshop – November 20 – 7:00 pm at City Hall Wayne reported that Better Together and the Milton Grows Green committee would be co-sponsoring the Septic System Workshop on Thursday, November 20. Better Together is responsible for providing the coffee, drinks and snack items.  North Fulton Community Charities – Family Sponsorship (Christmas) Teri Harrison reported that NFCC has assigned a family to Better Together under the Family Sponsorship Program. The family has two young girls and, for the most part, they want clothing items for Christmas. Based on the guidelines from NFCC, Better Together will need approximately $250 in donations ($15 to $20 per member) to purchase the items needed for the family. Teri volunteered to do the shopping and purchase the items for the family.  Senior Center Wish List – Partnership with Rotary Club of Milton- Windward It was reported that Better Together is partnering with the Rotary Club of Milton-Windward in order to provide needed items (for example, knitting needles, puzzles and family-friendly DVD’s) for the Milton Senior Center. Better Together members are asked to bring these items to the December 8 Christmas gathering. The items will be given to the Senior Center on December 15.  Better Together Christmas Gathering – December 8 at Bethwell The annual Better Together Christmas Party will be held at the Bethwell Community Center on December 8 beginning at 6:00 pm. Lasagna will be the main food item which will be provided by Nancilee. Other attendees are being asked to sign-up for side items. At the party, we will be exchanging “white elephant” gifts.  Pancake Breakfast – Fire Station 43 – December 13 – 8:00 to 10:00 am – Set-up help needed from 7:00 to 8:00 am 3 It was reported that the Milton fireman will be holding a community- wide pancake breakfast on December 13. In order to help with set-up, three or four Better Together members are needed at the fire station between 7:00 am and 8:00 am. Connecting Residents with Businesses –  J3 Academy & Fitness – First Quarter 2015 Plans are to hold a Better Together business connection event with J3 Academy & Fitness during the first quarter of 2015.  Milton Fields – Spring 2015 Plans are to hold our second business connection event with Milton Fields during the spring of 2015. Open Discussion Wayne reported that the first Better Together meeting in 2015 will be on Tuesday, January 13. Chris Lagerbloom, Milton’s City Manager, will be joining us for the meeting. It will be held in the Executive Conference Room at City Hall. Karen Fowler – Center Assistant – Milton Senior Center Karen Fowler, Center Assistant, reported on the activities that are available for the seniors at the Milton Senior Center. These include table games, exercise sessions, movies and special presentations. For example, Milton City Councilman Bill Lusk recently led a discussion and answered questions on activities relating to Milton’s city government. Next Meeting – December 8 – Bethwell Community Center
