Events and Activities (Past) –
Friendship Park Clean-up – April 11
Wayne reported that he and Maureen Campbell joined with others from
the Milton Grows Green Committee to spruce up Friendship Park in
advance of the Earth Day Festival.
Earth Day – Friendship Park – Saturday April 18
While Friendship Park was a little damp from the overnight rain, the
festival was enjoyed by some 1,000 residents and visitors. Better
Together members Sharon Lockwood, Barbara Peck and Wayne assisted
with activities at the event.
Events and Activities (Future) –
Relay for Life – May 1 and 2
Wayne reported that the City of Milton and the Crabapple Community
Association were joining efforts to form a team (Milton Citation) for the
American Cancer’s Relay for Life event. This fundraiser will be held at

old Milton High School. Our Better Together members are also invited
to participate.
Adopt-a-Road Clean-up – Saturday May 9 – 9:00 AM
Wayne reminded the group that our next adopt-a-road clean-up will be
Saturday, May 9. Barbara Peck will be coordinating this activity for our
group.
Milton Literary Group – Current Status
Wayne reported that the Milton Literary Group had its second meeting
on April 12. Rona Simmons, a local author, was the guest speaker.
Rona spoke on research and editing. Wayne also reported that a
meeting had been arranged with officials in Dahlonega who were
committee chairs for their book festival held earlier this year. This
festival, which has been in existence for some 10 years, attracted several
hundred people in 2015.
Institute for Advanced Medical Research – Three Programs
Better Together, Senior Services North Fulton and the Rotary Club of
Milton-Windward will be partnering together for a second Alzheimer’s
Presentation. The event date and time has been determined and will take
place on Tuesday, May 19, from 10 am to 12 noon in Milton City Hall
Chambers. The exact timing and place for the two additional events, drug
issues and PTSD, is still to be determined.

Open Discussion
Sharon Lockwood led a brief discussion on the 2015 United Way Shoebox
Project. Wayne said he would send an email to the Better Together group
asking for their participation in this year’s project. Once the items are
collected, they will be delivered to North Fulton Community Charities.
The purpose of the shoebox project is to collect needed items (toiletries,
including toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, etc.) in order to help homeless
women and children.
Guest Speaker – Marisa Meisters – Owner, Worldwide Explorer

Marisa gave a very interesting PowerPoint presentation on her company,
WorldwideXplorer, which plans and customizes vacations for people to
amazing destinations all around the world. The presentation was a video
narrated by Marisa and depicted the many places throughout the world
that people have traveled using the services of WorldwideXplorer. Marisa
told the group that she has traveled to 33 countries.
