Our commitment is to pick up trash and other debris on our portion of this road at least quarterly. Barbara Peck coordinated this activity for the group.  Wilbur and Rudy’s Farmtable – May 14 Wayne reported that he attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Wilbur and Rudy’s Farmtable on May 14. This new business is located at the crossroads of Birmingham Highway and Birmingham Road. Hopefully, this new business will be an excellent candidate for one of Better Together’s business connection events in 2015.  Community Pet Day – May 17 Better Together participated in the Community Pet Day at Christ Community Church. This event featured dogs for adoption through 2 Ruff Dog Rescue and opportunities for residents to bring their pets for a special blessing. In addition, several others vendors participated and a certain amount of the funds raised were donated to Canine Assistants. Events and Activities (Future) –  Milton Literary Group – o Next Meeting – June 14 at Bethwell – Jameson Gregg o Future Meetings – Second Sunday of Each Month o Literary Festival It was reported that plans were in place for the June 14 meeting of the Milton Literary Group which would feature author Jameson Gregg. With regard to future meetings, plans are to meet monthly on the second Sunday of each month. Hopefully, the success of the literary group will lead to the establishment of an annual literary festival in Milton.  June Better Together Meeting – Date TBD – Dillon Forge Wayne reported that he is in conversation with Dillon Forge with the hope of arranging a Better Together meeting at their business during the month of June.  July 13 Better Together Meeting – Broadwell Pavilion It was reported that our Better Together group will be having a cookout for all members and their families at the newly-opened Broadwell Pavilion on Monday, July 13. We’ll have a main course cooked on the grill and attendees will have the opportunity to sign up to bring dishes of their choice.  Drug Issues in the Community – Summer 2015 It was reported that Better Together is continuing to pursue ways in which to bring an event of this type to the community.  PTSD – Veterans – Fall 2015 It was also reported that work continues with respect to arranging a PTSD learning event to the veterans in our area. Institute for Advanced Medical Research – Alzheimer’s Symposium  Sponsored by BT, Senior Services North Fulton and Rotary Club of Milton-Windward  May 19 – City Hall Chambers – 10 to 12 noon 3 It was reported that plans have been finalized for this event which will occur on Tuesday, May 19. A large crowd is expected to again hear from Dr. Angelo Sambunaris, Medical Director and Founder of the Institute for Advanced Medical Research. Open Discussion Nancilee reminded the group that the Crabapple Community Association would again be sponsoring the 4th of July Parade for the Milton Community. Better Together participated last year and again plans to participate at this year’s event. Special Guest – Megan Hill – A Stronger Workplace Megan Hill, owner and operation of A Stronger Workplace, explained that the mission of her company is to educate, encourage and motivate employees to live a heathier lifestyle. This is accomplished through creating and implementing customized wellness programs. Megan also told the group about her personal athletic accomplishments. She was a gymnast and track participant at Auburn University and also participated in the bobsled for the US Olympic Team. For her bobsledding activities, she had the opportunity to travel to many interesting places all over the world.
