Program – Donna Barron – The Man Who Carved Stone Mountain
Donna Barron gave a very interesting talk and slide presentation on her
Father, Roy Faulkner, the Chief Carver of the Confederate Monument at
Stone Mountain, Georgia. The project had been plagued by conflicts,
controversy, financial problems, artistic differences, and physical
3
limitations for over fifty years before Mr. Faulkner began work in 1964. It
took him some eight years to complete the work. Donna explained that her
Father was a high school graduate and a former U. S. Marine with no
formal art training and no experience with working with stone. After her
presentation, copies of her book, The Man Who Carved Stone Mountain,
were offered for sale to the attendees.
