Village Volunteers – Update
City Events –
Small Business Symposium – Milton City Hall – June 15
o 12:00 – 1:30 pm – Lunch with Speaker
o 2:00 – 4:00 pm – Three Breakout Sessions of 30 minutes each
o 4:00 – 6:30 pm – Expo in Council Chambers
Reported that Sarah LaDart, Economics Development Manager for the
City, is leading the effort for the first Small Business Symposium to be
hosted by the City. To kick things off, attendees will be hearing from a
keynote speaker before moving into several breakout sessions. The final
session will focus on the businesses who have registered in this closing
event where they will be given the opportunity to meet and mingle with
the public. Refreshments will be available for all to enjoy.
Beach Bash at Bell – Bell Memorial Park – 6:00 to 10:00 pm
The City’s first Beach Bash at Bell will be held on Saturday, June 24. In
addition to vendors, including food trucks, the public will enjoy a
“Jimmy Buffet” cover band. This event will be free to the public.
Projects and Activities –
Better Together Family Cookout – Broadwell Pavilion – July 10
The Better Together annual family cookout at the Broadwell Pavilion
will be held on Monday, July 10. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be
provided and attendees will be asked to bring dish of their choice. The
event is open to all Better Together members and their families and
friends.
Milton Cultural Arts Committee – Update
The newly-formed Milton Cultural Arts Committee continues to meet
monthly. Currently, the committee consists of six members; an
additional member is to be added.
Milton Literary Festival –
o Current Status
o Festival Date – November 11
Planning continues for the Third Annual Milton Literary Festival. The
panels and workshops have been set. It is expected that over 40 authors
will be participating in this year’s event.
Hopes and Dreams for those with Special Needs – Grant Gunnigle
Grant Gunnigle spoke about his initiative to begin some type of business in
the Milton area that would have as a primary goal to employ persons with
special needs. Ultimately, Grant hopes that this will lead to a live/work
community for those with special needs.
Guest Speaker – Amy O’Dell – Jacob ’s Ladder, Executive Director and
Founder
Amy O’Dell, Executive Director and Founder of Jacob’s Ladder, gave a
very inspiring talk on the work of this Roswell-based organization. She
began her presentation by showing a video which provided a very
thorough overview on the work being done at Jacob’s Ladder. Jacob’s
Ladder is a Neurodevelopmental mental school and therapy center. It has
approximately 130 employees and over 100 attendees.
