This group meets each Monday at the Bethwell Community Center from 12 noon until 2:00 pm. Maya and Mukund Aravapalli – Update on “Booster Seat Project” Wayne reminded all that Maya Aravapalli spoke to our group a year or so back about a special project in India that she was coordinating involving the acquisition of school desks for children. At that time, Maya was a student at King’s Ridge Christian School. Her brother, Mukund, also spoke to our group last year and has continued this project. Wayne reported that Maya and Mukund have now helped children in three schools in India by acquiring needed desks. Projects and Activities –  Better Together Family Cookout – July 10 – 44 in attendance! The annual family cookout on July 10 was a huge success with 44 in attendance. The attendees enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs cooked by chefs Marc Arrington and Wayne Boston. After the meal, each person had an opportunity to introduce themselves to the group.  Adopt-a-Road Quarterly Pick-up- October, 2017 Reported that Better Together’s next scheduled pick-up would be on Saturday, October 21, at 9:00 am. Better Together’s responsibility is Thompson Road between Redd Road and Country Ridge Road.  Milton Literary Festival – o Current Status  47 authors committed  Website active  Significant volunteer needs o Festival Date – November 11 Reported that all arrangements are essentially set for the third annual Milton Literary Festival. The event will take place at Milton City Hall. The festivities will kick off at 8:00 am with a Breakfast for Veterans. The literary festival will begin afterwards at 10:00 am. Guest Speaker – Rena Olsen, Director of Marketing at No Longer Bound Rena Olsen, Director of Marketing at No Longer Bound, provided a detailed overview on the program at No Longer Bound. Basically, it is a 12-month regeneration process to rescue addicts, regenerate men and reconcile families. While in the program, men are provided the opportunity to work in various industries. Industries include furniture, cars for recovery, printing and the NLB thrift store. The program is limited to 42 men who live, full-time, on the NLB campus in Cumming Georgia. Opportunities to tour the facility and learn more about ways to help support this organization are available to all. Next Meeting – September 11 – Fire Station No. 43 at Hickory Flat Reported that the next Better Together meeting will be at Milton Fire Station No. 43 located on Hickory Flat Road.
