ROLL CALL Roll call was taken by Mr. Stachowski MEMBERS PRESENT Jason Alberici Phil Cranmer Scott Stachowski Sean-Michael Yonson OTHERS PRESENT Tom McKlveen, Parks and Recreation Manager Thomas Rhodes, Parks and Recreation Program Supervisor Quorum was announced by Mr. Stachowski. APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA A motion to approve the meeting agenda was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES A motion to approve the January 21, 2021 meeting minutes was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Yonson. The vote passed unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT None A motion to move Cox Road Field Layout discission up after public comment was made by Mr. Alberici and seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The vote passed unanimously. PRAB Meeting | January 21, 2021 Page 2 of 4 UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Cox Road Field Layout – Discussion on what to do with Field 1, the existing turf soccer field 1. NAFL- Nitcha Lewis o Would use for overflow practicing, no games o Field not suitable for tackle football practices o Turf will attract participants before grass options 2. MTC- Terre O’Brian – 25 years as Milton Tennis Center Pro o Milton tennis popularity continues to grow o Turned down 4 teams o Currently at capacity for Fall and Winter o Limited space at MTC; need additional space in city limits for city tennis population o 4 tennis courts at Hopewell Middle School • Currently no bathroom access or lights, this is a must for teams and leagues 3. HYA- Juan Salas o There would not be much use for baseball; would use as a last resort for warm-ups during tournaments o Potential batting cage space 4. Eagle Stix- Tim Godby o U7, U9, U11 could benefit from existing turf field A motion to make a recommendation to Council to utilize the small turf field at Cox Road Athletic Complex for tennis courts was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Yonson. The vote passed unanimously. COMMITTEE REPORTS • Hopewell Baseball – Esteban Colina o Assessments for rec next Saturday, January 30th o Numbers are level with last Spring; 50 rec teams o Spring practices will begin weekend of February 6th • Boys and Girls Lacrosse – Joey Costanzo & Jason Alberici o Participation did not drop off o Fall numbers are up compared to 2019 o Assessments are taking place • NAFL Football – Sean-Michael Yonson o Registration opens on March 1st o First board meeting occurred on January 31st • Halftime Sports Basketball – Phil Cranmer o 575 participants in Winter programs o Utilizing 3 gyms o Getting most games in; limited cancellations due to COVID-19 PRAB Meeting | January 21, 2021 Page 3 of 4 • Milton Mustangs Swim Team - Dave Shannon o No report • Milton Tennis - Dave Shannon (absent, report given by Mr. O’Brien) o Started Spring registration; at full capacity for ladies but have room for additional men’s teams o Kids team is full; program turned away teams due to lack of courts o Could not accept additional age groups due to lack of space • Arts Programming – Scott Stachowski (absent, report given by Mr. McKlveen) o Dance and Tai Chi taking registrations; programs start soon o Numbers are steady ELECTION OF OFFICERS 1. Chairman – Elected Scott Stachowski A motion to elect Mr. Stachowski as chairman was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. 2. Vice-Chairman – Elected Joey Alberici A motion to elect Mr. Alberici as vice-chairman was made by Mr. Yonson and seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The vote passed unanimously. 3. Secretary – Elected Joey Costanzo A motion to elect Mr. Costanzo as secretary was made by Mr. Cranmer and seconded by Mr. Alberici. The vote passed unanimously. 4. Committee Appointments • Jason Alberici – Youth lacrosse and Halftime Sports • Esteban Colina – Hopewell Youth Association • Sean-Michael Yonson – North Atlanta Football League • Scott Stachowski – Milton Tennis Center & Milton Mustangs Swim Team • Phil Cranmer – Art Programming & Adult Programming NEW BUSINESS 1. Rental rates for schools o Public comment- Juan Salas ▪ Opportunity for community partnerships ▪ High school athletes to mentor youth participants o Continued discussion from last month’s meeting o Local schools could receive a discount on field and facility rental fees A motion to push discussion regarding rental rates for schools until next meeting was made by Mr. Yonson and seconded by Mr. Cranmer. The vote passed unanimously. PRAB Meeting | January 21, 2021 Page 4 of 4 CITY STAFF REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS 1. Former Milton Country Club Update o Will potentially start construction in March 2. Lightning detection at Bell Memorial Park & Cox Road Athletic Complex o New systems were installed on the week of January 25th o After the install, electricians will hook up systems o Advanced technology and increased safety 3. COVID-19 Report for Winter Programming o No reported cases from Art Programming o 11 basketball cases of 575 participants o Halftime Sports has excellent protocols in place o Consistently adding new protocols to keep players safe OTHER BUSINESS None ADJOURNMENT A motion was made to adjourn by Mr. Alberici. The motion was seconded by Mr. Yonson. The vote passed unanimously. The meeting was ended by Mr. Stachowski at 8:02 PM.
