A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AN APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION FOR SAFE STREETS AND ROADS FOR ALL (SS4A) GRANT
IMPLEMENTATION FUNDING OF THE MILTON LOCAL ROAD SAFETY PLAN
WHEREAS, through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (117th Congress
Public Law 58), also known as the "Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," authorized and
appropriated funds for the Safe Streets and Roads for All ("SS4A") Discretionary Grant
Program; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of SS4A grants is to improve roadway safety by significantly
reducing or eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries through safety action plan
implementation focused on all users; and
WHEREAS, it is the role of government to do its part to serve and protect the
general public; and
WHEREAS, on August 1, 2022, the City Council adopted a "Local Road Safety Plan"
and on August 15, 2022, the City Council committed to a Vision Zero goal; and
WHEREAS, the Local Road Safety Plan's mission and recommendation is to provide
a transportation system that is safe, offers a diversity of travel, and allows the City's citizens
and visitors to traverse safely and calmly throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, the Local Road Safety Plan was developed with significant community
input through a diverse range of outreach activities; and
WHEREAS, the Local Road Safety Plan gives the City a toolbox of data -driven
countermeasures that can be deployed on public local streets immediately to begin
improving safety; and
WHEREAS, Transportation Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax (TSPLOST)
funding recently passed in November 2021 provides for matching funding to pursue
grants for addressing transportation safety concerns around the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is appropriate and in the best interest of the
City of Milton to support the submission of said application to the United States
Department of Transportation.
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Mayor and City Council of the City
as follows:
1. The Mayor and City Council hereby approve of and support the
administration's completion and submission of a Safe Streets and Roads for All ("SS4A")
grant application, and, if awarded, the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute any and
' all award package materials as required under the Program.
2. The Mayor and City Council further hereby acknowledge and agree to
provide the City's contribution toward a cash match requirement of twenty percent
(20%) of the total project amount.
