R24-01-685 A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE THE DONATION OF 45 SETS OF EXPIRED TURNOUT GEAR TO THE FIRE SCIENCE PROGRAM AT WOODSTOCK HIGH SCHOOL WHEREAS, O.C.G.A. § 36-37-6(e)(2)(d) provides that a lo cal government may donate equipment or other assets to anot her government agency ; and WHEREAS, Milton Fire-Rescue has 45 sets of surplus property in the fonn of turnout gear dating from deployment in 2007 through 20 14 that is expired and no longer certified or safe for use in a firefighting and rescue capacity in an environment that is immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH); and WHEREAS , the valu e of the gear to other agenc ies is de minim is because it is beyond it s expiration date, and therefore not practical for resale ; and WHEREAS , Woodstock High Sc ho ol has a st ud ent technical education program that involves giving hi gh school st ud ents experience with firefighting as a state-recognized Career and Technical Education pathway w hi ch does not involve students being placed in an IDLH environment; and WHEREAS , the program can repurpose the gear for educational purposes and thereby educate future firefighters that will serve in the Cherokee and North Fu lt on commun iti es and thereby serve the citizens of Mi I ton; WHEREAS , a ll City of Milton identifiers wi ll be removed from the gear and their safety and maintenance will be taken over by the Woodstock High School Fire Science program ; BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED , by the Mayor and City Council of the City as follows: The Milton Fire-Rescue Department will forfeit a ll responsibility for the expired gear and donate it for the use by Woodstock High School. SO RESOLVED this 17 th of January 2024.
