Meeting Minutes
February 4, 2009, 7:00 p.m.
Milton City Hall
Attendees: Marie Latta, Ann Coggins, Marcia O'Shaughnessy, Linda Blow, Laura York,
Olga Espinola, Renee Catanzaro
Resolutions/Ordinances Marie plans to introduce:
• Non-discrimination policy (Feb.)
• Grievance procedure (Feb.)
+ Resolution of intention to be accessible (March)
• Accessibility housing ordinance
Discussion of Bike/Ped Path
• Granite dust seems to deteriorate over time and is difficult and expensive to
maintain. It also doesn't work for a power wheelchair
• Dan Drake and Marie have spoken re: an alternative path material—"cement
stabilized granite dust"
Marie to talk to Roddy about where to visit this material to check it out
i. Marcia identified a pervious material, has sent info to Dan Drake
and will send out to the committee.
• Marcia—Mark Henson and Abby communicated re: path. Would like to locate
this communication, possible with Sarah Leaders?
• Discussion of how to be most effective with Bike/Ped Path committee
• Have an MDAC member on their committee? Have an MDAC liason for
them to contact?
• Important to establish relationship and to communicate expectations, i.e.
don't need the whole path accessible, especially if it is a cost issue.
Discussion of ways to be more effective
• Need to establish relationship/rapport with other committees to work with them
more effectively and encourage them to come to us for questions/concerns and
when they are starting a project so that we can help it be accessible from the start.
• Plan
o Marie plans to introduce a resolution to the council in March. Use this
resolution as a tool to ask council to impact appointees to work with us.
o Reach out to each committee with a 1 page education handout and visit
committees at their meetings. Help engage them by asking what they need
from us and suggest ways we can help.
o Monitor meeting minutes that are posted on the website and visit meetings
when applicable.
Relationship building social event
o Wine tasting reception at SIP to be planned in next 2 months to be
sponsored by MDAC and invite committee members and mayor and
council

o Start with social for MDAC members at March meeting?
o Pair social event with fundraiser.
o Ann to talk to SIP owner about possibilities/options
Linda to send list of committees to contact
o Top 3 we should be involved with: Parks and Rec, Bike and Ped Path, and
Community Development
We can go on the Milton Trail Goals online and comment about needs
• Ann will contact Dan Drake and Brad Chamber re: Parks and Rec
Disability Day at the Capitol

• Group plans to go and would like to meet with our representative.
Action items
• Marcia -to send info on path material
• Marie -to talk to Roddy about where to visit cement stabilized granite dust,
resolution for March,
■ Ann -to contact Dan Drake and Brad Chambers and intro Renee, discuss social
event with SIP owner
Ann and Marie -to identify a good one page handout to present to each committee
• Linda -to send list of committees, to check on communication between Mark
Henson and Abby
• Renee -to follow up with Ann on being contact re: Parks and Rec
• Laura -continue with Merchant Ed development and communication with Jason re:
stories
• All—comment online re: Milton Trails, become more assertive and active
