CITY OF MILTON PARKS AND RECREATION
ADVISORY BOARD
Thursday, August 16th, 2012 11:30 a.m.

CALL TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Mark Reed at 11:31 a.m.

Quorum was announced by Mark Reed.
APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES
Motion to approve minutes of the June 21 st (July meeting cancelled) meeting was made by Ron Hill and
seconded by David Shannon. The vote was unanimous and motion carried.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None
NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS
a) Jim Cregge -Introduction of new Interim Parks & Recreation Director: Jim introduced
himself and reviewed his extensive background as Parks & recreation Chairman for the City
of Alpharetta and his years of volunteer work in youth sports at Bell Memorial Park in
various capacities (coach, umpire mentor, President of HYA Board).
b) Report on Cities of Milton &Alpharetta Park Departments Coordination efforts: Mark Reed
and Jim Cregge reported on the City's discussions with City of Alpharetta to work together
in an effort to optimize recreational opportunities offered by both cities and to mitigate the
non-resident fees that burden residents in many programs. Mr. Duley initiated an extensive
discussion surrounding question of what is the overall strategy of Milton Parks & Recreation
in its efforts to create recreational opportunities for its residents. This discussion was
primarily focused on issue of whether Milton focus should be build a traditional Parks &

Recreation program from the ground up (through a capital intensive effort) or work to build
public/private partnerships as a way to build the program.
COMMITIEE REPORTS
a) Finance -No report.
b) Partnerships -No report.
CITY STAFF REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS
a) Mr. Cregge gave his parks department update to the Board.
• Jim reviewed Bell Memorial land acquisitions status. Acquistions should be
completed by October 2012.
• Jim discussed tentative improvement plans to Bell Memorial.
• Jim reviewed construction issues at Crabapple Park and contractor's efforts to
correct.

~ The location of the meetings will be the Executive Conference Room at City Hall.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion and Vote: A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by David Shannon and seconded by Sue
Rekuc. The vote was unanimous and motion carried. The City of Milton Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board meeting adjourned at 1:35 p.m.
