HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-11-2013_Minutes MDACMilton Disability Awareness Committee Meeting Minutes September 11, 2013 Committee Members In Attendance: Ken Woods, Van Black, Tass Welch, and Dudley Arnold MDAC Liajson: Sudie Gordon Guests jn Attendance: None Tass Welch called the meeting to order and Ken Woods seconded the motion. Committee members reviewed the meeting minutes from the September 11, 2013 meeting. Ken Woods moved to approve the minutes, Van Black seconded the motion, and the minutes were approved by unanimous vote. Old Business: • Members continued discussing and evaluating the MDAC website design and links. The purpose being to make the website more helpful and functional. • Amongst the items discussed were how MDAC could create better descriptions or blurbs for some of the featured links such as the DMV disabled drivers, Canine Assistants, Veto Violence (bullying) and Better Together. • Van stated he felt it would be a good idea to have clear descriptions for each link rather than just the boring web addresses listed. • MDAC members examined the different links and came up with some possible solutions to make these links more clear. • For Division of Motor Vehicles-we agreed on Obtaining disabled parking plate or placard as the appropriate description. • For Canine Assistants-Milton based provider of Service and Seizure dogs. • For the Disabled Senior Services-Report abuse of disabled adults or seniors. • For Hearing Aids-Hearing Loss Financial Assistance. • For Disability Resources-Georgia Disability links from A-Z. • We also discussed the CDC link about bullying and how much that applies to MDAC. Is it an MDAC issue or a general societal matter. • The committee also discussed adding the North Fulton Senior Services Center link to the website. New Business: • Ken discussed the most recent public meeting he attended regarding the Bell Memorial Park renovation. • Two or three different concepts have been discussed. • The number of fields and different uses for the fields were among the items discussed. • The Milton Garden Club is interested in saving some of the plants that will no longer be needed at Bell Memorial Park. Some might be sold at the Crabapple Festival or donated for other purposes. • Ken ran into Jim Cregge later on and was told that all the plans for Bell Memorial Park are currently on hold. • Apparently the Bell Memorial concepts that were decided on would be over budget if developed. • Another possible vehicle entrance might be added at Bell Memorial Park to help with some of the traffic flow. • Ken discussed the meeting he attended regarding to Hopewell House renovation and ADA Access. • Ken was told at the meeting that there should be no issues in modifying the Hopewell House to be fully accessible. • The Hopewell House will be gutted on the interior and appears there will likely only be a first floor after renovations are complete. • Ken suggested that MDAC would be available to help the committee in regards to the plans for Hopewell House. • To close out the meeting we briefly discussed some possible new candidates for MDAC. Ken Woods moved to adjourn the meeting. Dudley Arnold seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to adjourn.
