CITY OF MILTON PARKS AND RECREATION
ADVISORY BOARD
Thursday,April 30,2009,11:30 a.m.
CALL TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order by Mark Reed at 11:35 a.m.

Quorum announced by mark Reed.
APPROVAL OF MEETING AGENDA
Motion to approve agenda as submitted was made by Mark Reed and seconded by Sandra Sheley.
The vote was unanimous and the motion carried.
APPROVAL OF PAST MINUTES
Motion to approve minutes of March 19.2009 by Mark Reed,seconded by Curtis Mills.The vote
was unanimous and the motion carried.
NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS
•Concept and intent of recreation and parks for City of Milton
}.o Jan Jones gave a brief but informative overview of the initial thinking for the parks in the
City of Milton.
o She said there were four issues that formed her basis for Milton becoming
their own city:(I)Taxes,(2)Planning Development/Zoning,(3)Traffic and
(4)Parks &Recreation.
o Fulton County purchased Birmingham Park approximately 10 years ago.
o Ms Jones applied for and received a $275,000 state grant which was how the
Milton Bike &Ped Committee came into creation/existence.
o Only 6%of Milton Park space is presently active.
o Milton is underserved on all parks &recreation activities except baseball.
o Alpharetta bases its P&R services on 9 acres per 1000 citizens.
Parks &Recreation Mission Statement
:>Committee members gave ideas for the Mission Statement and Brad Chambers captured
the same on an easel during the meeting.The content of the ideas shared is covered in a
different e-mail from Brad to the Committee dated May 1st •
:>It was decided that all members give the mission statement more thought and email
their ideas to all.
•Public Comment
:>Mark Reed made a motion that public comment be allo'\-ved at the beginning of the
Committee meetings and restricted to two minutes each.Curtis Mills seconded the
motion and the vote was unanimous.This will be incorporated into the agenda beginning
with the May meeting.
Discussion of EDAW slide presentation issues and clarifications:
:>Mark Shaw would like to see more City branding a.s.a.p.This item will be discussed
at the second meeting with EDA W tentatively scheduled for May 14,2009,6:00 p.m.

Motion and Vote:Sandra Sheley made motion to have meeting adjourned.The motion was
seconded by Mark Reed.The vote was unanimous and the motion carried.
After no further business,the City of Milton Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting
adjourned at 1:30 pm.
