HomeMy WebLinkAboutMDAC Meeting Minutes 05 14 14MrLT61\T ~ ESTABLISHED 2006 Milton Disability Awareness Committee Meeting Minutes May 14, 2014 Committee Members In Attendance: Tass Welch, Nancilee Wolfe, Sue Sharp, Dudley Arnold and Paul Schiell MDAC Liaison: Sudie Gordon Guests in Attendance: N / A Tass Welch called the meeting to order and Paul Schiell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. (5-0) Committee members reviewed and approved the meeting minutes from April 9,2014. Dudley Arnold made the motion to approve the minutes and Paul Schiel! seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. (5-0) Old Business: • The MDAC business packet has been fully revised and completed. • MDAC is leaving some copies of this plan with Robyn MacDonald in the City Planning office . New Business: • Nancilee and Sue are both planning to be sworn in very soon. * MDAC has a number of new materials now for presentations, festivals and other events. • This includes a big state of the art banner with the MDAC logo. • Fed Ex or UPS might possibly have a large plastic container we could safely store the banner in. • Committee members touched more on festivals and events that will be taking place in Milton this year. The Crabapple Festival and the Christmas Festival are the most notable. • A Blessing of the Pets will be held this September and the City of Milton is going to help MDAC publicize that event. • A practice r un of the pet blessing will take place in August. • MDAC will be presenting Renee Catanzaro with a token of appreciation for all her years of service to the committee. • Paul touched on the committee possibly reaching out and partnering with some schools in the area. Nancilee mentioned a program called Communiteen that several students at Milton High • School started a few years ago. Partnering with Community would connect MDAC to five or six schools in this area. Page 1 of2 -- ..... • Sue Sharp discussed the possibility of hosting an MDAC meeting in her store. This would allow members ofthe community to learn more about MDAC and learn more about some life enhancing products. • MDAC is going to continue working on resource links and targeting more speaking engagement opportunities. • Nancilee also mentioned the possibility of MDAC compiling a list of all services and resources in this area available to those with special needs. This would greatly help spread information to Milton residents that is not always readily available. • Tass mentioned that MDAC will be making posts on Facebook through the City of Milton page. Committee members will be thinking about possible good posts for the near future. • MDAC wants to continuing working with Better Together as the two have great synergy. • Tass plans to invite Wayne Boston (of Better Together) to an upcoming MDAC meeting to discuss more ways the two committees can make an impact together. Tass Welch moved to adjourn the meeting. Paul Schiell motioned to adjourn and Dudley Arnold seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to adjourn.
