New Business:
• Tass took the floor first and explained to Courtney how MDAC is interested in being involved
in as many City of Milton activities as possible.
• Tass discussed how MDAC has reached out to local schools as one way of connecting with
people in the community.
• Nancilee suggested MDAC participate in the Milton 4th of July parade.
• Van said that the Titans might be willing and able to participate with MDAC in the parade as
well.
• Milton Earth Day will take place on April 18, 2015 at Friendship Park.
• Courtney Spriggs, Public Outreach Coordinator, discussed her new role with the City of
Milton.
• Courtney provided MDAC with a calendar and lots of information on various city events and
activities that are planned for the year.
• Getting people more and more involved in the community and its events is one of Courtney's
main goals.
• The Milton Jubilee is one of the brand new activities that Milton has planned for this year. It
will be similar to a smaller scale Taste of Alpharetta style event. Approximately 20
restaurants are expected to participate as well as some local Milton vendors.
• Courtney discussed the Golden Games that the Milton Senior Center will be participating in
along with Roswell, Alpharetta and some other senior centers around Fulton County. A
number of races and other exciting events make up the Golden Games.
• The farmers market and food trucks is another fun city event planned. The dates will run
through the summer each Saturday from 4-8 pm (not July 4th). A few movies will also be
scheduled for some of the Saturdays.
• Tass suggested MDAC might be able to set up a little booth or Sue's van on the movie nights.
Courtney is going to look into that possibility.
• Tass briefed Courtney on Community Pet Day and provided some details on this year's event
• Sudie presented the 2015 MDAC calendar and all members took a look at it
Old Business:
• Nancilee and Paul continue to work on the school presentation category. It sounds like
presentations at Summit Hill will like start in the next calendar year.
• Van gave us an update on the Cambridge HS Nature Trail Meeting.
• It sounds like trail will be tougher to design and make accessible than originally expected,
but attempts are being made to make it happen.
• A senior citizens facility (expected to be built soon) has expressed an interest in helping
Cambridge HS complete the project
• Lots of the details are still up in the air at this point
• Tass says that the Milton Fire Dept would like to participate in Community Pet Day. The
police department and canine units also are expected to attend. A couple of veterinarians,
Canine Assistants and some rescue groups are planning to participate.
• MDAC might look into having some music at the event and possibly a food truck. However,
most food trucks appear to require a big deposit up front
• Dudley will look into a CPR contact that might be able to attend and provide an instructional
segment or demonstration of some kind.
• Serving drinks and hotdogs has also been recommended for the event
Tass Welch moved to adjourn the meeting. Van Black motioned to adjourn and Paul Schiell seconded
the motion. The vote was unanimous to adjourn. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,
February 11, 2015.
