Milton Disability Awareness Committee
Meeting Minutes
April 8, 2015
Committee Members In Attendance: Ken Woods, Tass Welch, Van Black, Dudley Arnold and Paul
Schiel!
MDAC Liaison: Sudie Gordon
Guests in Attendance: James Keating, Hope Winograd, Jan Williamson and Diane Stewart
Tass Welch called the meeting to order and Paul Schiel! seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. (5-0)
Committee members reviewed and approved the meeting minutes from March 11,2015. Van Black
made the motion to approve the minutes and Ken Woods seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. (5-0)
New Business:
• MDAC committee members and guests kicked off by watching the Special Needs
Certification video and taking the corresponding quizzes.
• This is the same certification that the City of Milton recently earned.
• Committee members and guests then discussed thoughts and opinions on the Special
Needs Certification video and quizzes.
• Members of the committee then briefed the guests on how MDAC functions, future plans
for the committee and then provided some information on the history of the group.
• The committee then held a discussion and then the election for Sue Sharp's open
position.
• Paul Schiel! then made a motion to nominate Hope Winograd to the committee and Ken
Woods seconded the motion .
• MDAC elected Hope Winograd to take the open spot of Sue Sharp.
• James Keating wants to continue to be involved with MDAC and plans to regularly attend
meetings and give input.
• Hope was sworn in on Monday, May 11,2015 before the Milton City Council meeting.
Old Business:
• Van took the floor to discuss Earth Day and the MDAC booth.
• The Milton Earth Day Festival is April18, 2015 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Friendship Park.
• The Titans will be participating in the Earth Day Festival with MDAC.
• Part of what the Titans will be doing is teaching people who come to the MDAC booth
how to play wheelchair basketball.
• The Earth Day event will have lots of wheelchair accessible restrooms and handicap
accessible parking.
• The 2nd annual Community Pet Day will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 1:30-
4:30 PM at Community Church of Christ.
• City of Milton Police Department and Fire Department will have officers and fire fighters
present.
• Community Pet Day 2015 is sponsored by Better Together, Community Church of Christ,
MDAC and Canine Assistants .
Van Black moved to adjourn the meeting and Paul Schiell seconded the motion. The vote was
unanimous to adjourn. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2015.
